Unless you are an avid runner I would have to say biking is a phenomenol way to lose weight. Granted it may not all come directly off your stomach and you will have to do other things as you lose, directed towards toning the mid-section, but cycling WILL make you lose weight. I have a friend that lost 100 lbs last year simply cycling. I cycle almost every Saturday for about 2 hours on average and I burn about 1,000 calories at a time. I bought a used road bike with the thin tires and ride on flat roads all around the city, being careful to go when there is little to no traffic. If you are constantly pedaling and only stopping for redlights, you will lose weight...this I know. It seems to be the only exercise for me that doesn't make me feel like it is such a chore. In between rides..you should still do other cardio and some light weights, need to confuse your body so it won't adapt to just biking.
Good Luck!!!

Determining where you lose weight is almost impossible. Everybody's body is different with respect to how the store and lose fat. Your best bet is to develop a healthy and sustainable diet and exercise program to guide you through your life.

Running is more "efficient" than cycling. This means that if you ran for one hour, you would burn more calories that if you bikes - on average. That being said, you need to find what works for you. I for one can not stand running. So it is not feasible for me. I am much more likely to go on a very hard road ride in a fast group, or go ride for three hours. I enjoy it more, therefore I do it. Some people love running or swimming. It is all personal preference.

Biking is a great weight loss method. I lost about 50 pounds about 4 years ago and have kept it off by riding. It won't do much for your abs, though. For that, you'll need to do some ab-specific exercises. Good Luck!

Biking is a good cardio exercise.

Like any other cardio exercises, biking revs up your heart rate and increases your metabolism to burn fat.

Your goal is to lose fat around your stomach and sides. Biking will help you there since it will burn off fat from your entire body, hence your stomach and sides will benefit as well.

If you are riding up hill it's great! If you are riding on flat ground you are mostly just gliding along and use a fraction of the energy you use to go up hill. Other than that, running burns more calories.
