What's your opinion on young teens drinking alcohol?

When I was in High School, my mother let me keep a pony keg in my fridge in the basement.

Rules were that if I had people over to drink...(a. their parents said it was 'ok'..) and they stayed until next morning...no driving. Also, if I drank during the week, I still had to go to school the next morning without exception.

Took about 2 weeks to take all the fun out of doing something 'taboo' and taught me to be responsible with my drinking. She treated me like an adult and I responded to her trust by feeling then acting like an adult.

Her idea was that if I were probably going to do it anyway...why not take control and not have to hear about me in a car crash somewhere? Instead she took the opportunity to teach me first hand and I'm grateful.

I'll probably do the same with my kids.

I think it's ok for teens to drink during private family celebrations (wine at Bar Mitzvah, beer at 4th July, that sort of thing) and the occasional mixed drink. Some families have a small glass of wine at dinner. All this in the privacy of the child's OWN home. Contrary to the opinions of some, giving your child alcohol in your own home is perfectly legal in all 50 states.

However, illegal drinking is usually what the issue is and I think the law already speaks to it. Also, the problem continues that even if you lock up your liquor cabinet, how can you be sure that the parent of your child's friend is doing the same? Probably not. So, you have to teach kids why it's a problem because you can't be with them all the time.

I don't have an opinion. It's their choice to remain tee-total like it's my choice to drink alcohol whenever I want. I think it's cool that they don't drink and it's great when they don't give into temptation or peer pressure to touch a drop. I have some friends who don't drink and they are still the soul of the party (: however sometimes some people tend to think they are superior or once someone said she's classy for not drinking, and that's rude and I think those people have a stick up their ****.

First of all: Alcohol tastes bad
I just don't know why would anybody want to drink such a disgusting thing. It tastes awful.
I just think that teens do it under pressure and because of all the tension they get. Most of them do in order to fit in and some do it to escape from their problems. I think teens nowadays are pretty stressed out and its the responsibility of parent and society as a whole to prevent them from indulging themselves into any kind of addiction.

this is very broad. beer, wine, gin, absinthe. i mean it does make a difference. a glass off wine for a teen is not a bad thing. a few shots of southern comfort are.
not too mention when you place a drinking age limit most underage people who want to be older will start drinking to feel older. just like pot. if it wasn't illegal then it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

I think teens should'nt be experimenting with alcohal but teens do. and unforuatley this is part of life not that I agree with it at all. we hear of teens dying in car crashes every year due to teen drinking. it's sad.

As a teenager, I know that other teens will do it. No law will prevent that. The only thing that can stop them is making moves that they will regret.

Parents should be responsible enough to watch over their kids/children.. Teens must be responsible enough to know thier limitations..

well, as a teenager who got wasted last night, i guess i support the issue. but of course there needs to be a sober driver. and if everyone ends up ok in the end then it shouldnt even be an issue

i think they are dumb, but every generation has to do their own thing. kids will experiment, and those who get hurt or killed pay the price of having fun.
