Wow, my very own thread.

First of all, America was not built upon Christianity, most of the founding fathers were deists.

Second, I only bash mindless Christian drones who's sole purpose in life is to convert and control the universe with their obsolete cult teachings.

I happen to like and adore many Christians I've been privileged to know in my college and workplace.

A) This is not America, "this" is an international forum...

B) America is not a Christian country, it was not built upon Christ, George Washington went to church with his wife, but was always recorded as leaving before communion was taken, he never expressed any other opinion on religion. Jefferson and Franklin were Deists (i.e. didn't believe in organized religion or Christ explicitly, but believed in God), John Adams was a Christian in a vague sense but didn't subscribe to any sect, and rejected dogma, saying "Howl, Snarl, bite, Ye Calvinistick! Ye Athanasian Divines, if You will. Ye will say, I am no Christian: I say Ye are no Christians: and there the Account is ballanced. Yet I believe all the honest men among you, are Christians in my Sense of the Word.". Thomas Paine, also one of the largest ideological influences to this country, was a deist...

Most of the founding fathers weren't explicitly Christian, and especially wouldn't be aligned with Christian thought today. This country wouldn't be as it is today at all without these vehement non-Christians... Take all of the influences of Paine, Jefferson, and Franklin out of the Constitution, and you have very little of substance left.

Person who does not believe in God. I'm answering this question as you sought to know the meaning of cliffnote's version. It's a phrase which indicates the shorter version of a long story. For example, you ask a person a question, he says, "It's a long story". Then you say, "Give me the Cliffnote's version" meaning that you want the person to tell you without all the details. The t in my Verstion is a spelling error, which I then felt added a personal touch and it stuck. I initially fancied myself as giving only to the point answers...which I obviously don't now.

That is not very Christian.

a little weaker and it is bland
a little stronger and it would be something like what people have in many islmc countries.

Is that what you want?

and Q, Eldad9, and others -
Many of the men that "founded" this country were of an intellectual elite. Many of these men were deists but this did not exclude a God.

They seen the mockery that the Roman and English churches had made of religion and pulled away from it.

This is akin to no one speaks to or for me re God. There is a specific name for this!!

They also believed that people should be allowed to worship as they chose not as any particular group dictated.

or haven't you read the constitution that there is a privilege of religious freedom .

A. Halo ..... Why do you think Americans are the only ones here?

B. America is built on Justice, Equality, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Action. Not Jesus Christ.

If you cannot take it that America is a Free Country .... Leave, go to some countries which Only Christians can stay.

(You are not chasing anyone out of the country? Please look at your own question, then say that without guilt in front of your god and say you would had deem blasphemy should you lie.... By the way, I do not drink alcohol, that is generalisation again. Like you, I have another thesis to present too, in fact, it is a master thesis ;P)

Maybe we'd be more tolerant to you, if you were tolerant to us. I've never asked an atheist question but I've lived through three years of a public school in America.

Furthermore, at the current time I am in the Czech Republic. The internet is international.

Your country was built on lead and Christ? Maybe. But you also killed many native Americans in the process. Perhaps it was built on that too. And would you like that to continue?

America is a melting pot-my 4th grade social studies teacher shoved that into my head. Tolerance is needed from both sides.

Maybe the Native Americans should say "This is our country. We've founded it on love and respect for nature. If you don't like that, if you insist on buildings, cars etc., then leave."

If your slate is clean, throw stones at me. Otherwise leave me alone.

ahhh... The typical uneducated christian who diverts his dramatic anger towards others by saying leave.

The people who fled England at the time were either tired of being persecuted by the churches monarchy, land hungry, or to just plainly have a better living. America wasent built by christians, it was built by black slaves.

But it's ok. Go back to sleep, everything is going to be fine.

I myself am an athiest and i dont get angry at christians. I respect your spiritual choice as your OWN. America was also built on the freedom of choice. I can make a choice to be athiest because this is america. And telling athiests as a whole to leave is just as bad as the crusades. " If you dont like our religion we will kill you and take your land" That is just ethically wrong and immorale. But i suppose i cant blame a single person for the errors of your past religious leaders. The way i see it, respect other peoples views and opinions and you will get the same treatment. By the way, didnt your god say to love every brother regardless of their thoughts?

Other than native red Indians, all other americans are off-springs of immigrants. Some brought along their load of rubbish, and that included yours. You should seriously consider packing your bags and leave. Everybody has the right to live in America under the policy of freedom, and of course freedom of their choice of religion or otherwise (it means including not believing what you believe in) . You just certainly don't have the right to chase any American out of the country which is not actually yours in the first place. Repent, brother!

Show me ANYWHERE in the Constitution that Christianity is the legal religion of America. You won't. However, you'll find the Establishment Clause which you should try to have somebody read to you.

Atheist citizens have just as much right to stay here as you do--if you don't like it, perhaps you can leave instead...
