If you come up with a cure, let me know, cuz I'm desperate too!
I had a sleep study done a year ago & was told to take over-the-counter melatonin 20 minutes before bed. I also got a tabletop water fountain & I turn it on at night to help relax me.
I was also told to severely reduce my caffeine and to eliminate caffeine if possible. Also, to have a cup of warm milk with a dash of honey before bed, as the warmth of the milk, and the combo of protein and lactose triggers sleep signals, and the honey has a chemical reaction that triggers the brain to relax.
Also, try going to bed the same time EVERY nite, regardless of what day of the week it is, and also get up the same time EVERY morning.
I really hope I could provide you with some new suggestions, as these helped me a little, but I still suffer from insomnia, so I totally understand how you feel. I suffered a 2.5 month consistent migraine due to sleeping no more than 3.5 hours a nite, and several nites with no sleep at all... it was really hard. You are not alone, insomnia sucks and all we can do is share our tips with each other in hopes of helping someone else get some much needed sleep.
Best of luck to you, I hope I could help you out! If it comes down to it, a sleep specialist can REALLY help you out, by finding out how YOUR body is reacting. :o)

I would suggest that you go back to your doctor and tell him/her that sleeping pills don't work. Suggest that they put you in a sleep clinic so they can monitor your sleep. Sometimes they can find things that other doctors can't.
Do you drink any caffeine after 6:00PM at night? If so, that may contribute to it? Do you eat before you go to bed? Sometimes that will interfere in your sleep. I have heard that a small glass of warm milk helps. These are a few suggestions. Hope you can get some help.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info

You might have a sleep disorder. I have 4 of them! Go to your doctor. Also, look up all the numerous sleep disorders on the internet. You will be surprised! You may have one of the carcadian rythem problems. I have sleep apnea, hypersomulence, RLS, PLM and a couple of other confusing ones. I am serious-go see your doctor-a sleep doctor.
