Luther, Calvin, Zwingli and others were just as brutal about killing Anabaptists and Mennonites as the Catholic Church was. The whole burning at the stake thang ended because some very brave people stood up to organized religion and ushered in the Enlightenment.

If there was a famine or pestilence, starvation, natural disasters that destroyed crops, or frightful events in your area, and these things pointed to your doing (however true or not) and you were a person of ill repute especially in occult matters, then you could have been a victim. That you consorted with black cats, or fundamentally outraged , scared, or just plain hated your neighbours and MADE yourself a candidate is another thing.
And, don't fool yourself. Witches were burned on both sides of the Reformation.

Are we attacking a practice or doctrine adhered to 500 + years ago? Can we look at what the Church is today instead?
Why don't we look at some of the old 400 - 500 year old Protestant/Puritan practices of killing people that didn't believe the same as them?
Hundreds of years ago, ALL Christian religous groups, Catholic and Protestant were anything but tolerant, and they ALL killed people in the name of furthering their cause.

Yes.
I'd also be burned as a Roman Catholic turned Gnostic Christian. Nowadays, I'd also be excommunicated for my beliefs as well, but at least we've enlightened beyond the stake eh?

you mean, like if we kept killing the Russians, at a certain point, Communism would never have begun and millions of Catholics in Russia, China, et al, wouldn't have like, disappeared off the face of the Earth? There's blood enough on both sides, my friend.
Whose blood cries out the loudest?

Too big to worry about little fish now.
And yes they would - happily burn you at the stake or something that brought delight to their little hearts.

The way religious attitudes are going these days, my friend, I'd keep a fire extinguisher handy - just in case.
