I have a '04 Ford Ranger 4 x 4, 6 cyn with 67,000 miles on it. When the speedometer gets to almost 50, it feels like the rear end is "shuttering", bumpy. If I let off the gas, it stops, if I go over 50, it stops. What's up with that?

it could be a driveshaft issue. (universal joints) or a carrier or also called a hanger bearing for the shafts themself. I have seen a few transfer cases cause what you discribe and even some transmission tail shafts. You don't say if its a automatic or stick. It it just happen all of a sudden? After towing something? After using the 4 x4? After some off roading? Any decent shop could take a ride with you and tell. Most will not even charge you for taking the ride and giving an estimate. We tell our drivers to go to Goodyear, Firestone, PepBoys and have them look at it. We use them for the fact they are nationwide and if one shop fixes something its covered anywhere for some sort of warranty period usually 90 days at least. They don't usually charge for taking a ride and listening. For that matter neither will a dealer but you might have to leave the vehicle for a day. 9 X out of 10 of the others i mentioned will look at your vehicle in a reasonable lenght of time while you wait.

Sounds like a tire issue. You should check balance and also "road force" (basically tire out of round under load). Go here to find a place that has the machines to check this

Road force typically gives you problems around 45 mph, while balance is usually higher speeds, like 60 or 70

U-joints and or carrier bearing, also check wheel and tires, balance and rotate.

You should take it to a automotive repair shop that specializes in 4x4 vehicles and let them check it for you and in most cases they will apply any check out charges if any to your repair bill.

You may have a universal joint that is bad.

COULD POSSIBLY BE A UNIVERSAL JOINT, A WHEEL BEARING, OR THE RING AND PINION.
