if you want to learn to swim, you have to jump in the water. the same thing is true with getting punched in the face. if you're sparing, you just make sure you're using control and lite contact. don't go full force. and then little by little the adreniline will start to pick up and so will the contact, and pretty soon you're trading punches and the fear will just go away.

Believe it or not, not wanting to get punched in the face is actually a good thing. It is a huge part of what fighters train for. Head movement and avoiding punches extends a fighter's career and makes life after retirement a lot easier.
Use the fear as a motivator for your training. Make it your goal every time you spar or fight, not to get hit in the face. When you do get hit in the face, learn from it what you did wrong and how you can do better next time.
In the long run, avoiding punches to the face is a very good thing.
Now, if you fear the pain associated with a punch to the face, then you might want to take up chess.

I wouldn't want to get punched but if I do it dosen't bother me, as for my brother he won't even point spar because he dosen't like to be hit. It is natrual to not want to get hit, for most people. I think that even though it may sound odd I'd say the person needs to be poped a few times so they know that they won't die from it. It's all just fear of being hurt. If they are hit a few times they may find that it's really not as bad as they think it'll be. If that dosen't work then they are just going to fear being hit, plain and simple. Some people just can't get past that. I'ts not a bad thing that is just the way they will be. I wouldn't push the issue if they can't take it they can't take it.

Try the Die Hard 3 routine, Send him into Central brooklyn, with a less than kind sign about the local ethnicity....Is that putting it nicely enough....on second thought....he'll get shot....no..best bet. Punch him in the face, and if you wont do it...you bad friend....have someone else do it...maybe tell some hothead you know that this guy is after his girl.

Its just those 1st couple of punches. Seriously, play for a local rugby team. You'll get kicked, punched, and elbowed in the face so many times you won't care anymore. Your threshold of pain will skyrocket. At least it did for me.

Fear of pain is a survival instinct. It's there to keep you from doing stupid things that lead to receiving a punch in the face such as walking into a stereotypical biker/redneck bar and hollaring "You're all gay!".

Just get yourself or your friend enrolled in a local boxing gym and try sparring. Over time you'll develop enough confidence thru constant training and getting hit. Start off with gloves and head protector on, then gradually work your way to sparring without headgear.

Tell your twin brother to punch you in the face as hard as he can. Of course, after you're both about 195 pounds and benching 350, you'll just knock eachother out. Of course, if you're a total PANZY and don't have a twin brother to spar with, go kick your dad in the balls. I PROMISE you won't fear anyone's punch anymore (other than your dad's!!!!!)!

Legendary boxing trainer Cus D'Amato once said:
A hero and a coward feel the exact same fear, but the hero just reacts differently to it.
The real question is not how do you stop fearing it, the question is: How badly to you feel the need to overcome it and do this?
