Break the barrier of awkwardness.
Just say with a smile, "Thank you!. You made my day."
You have to make sure that you know a person well enough to use this expression.
Sometimes thanking in an informal way may become an embarrassing mistake. If you are talking to someone superior like your boss or a public figure, you have to just say, "Thank you."
Among friends, you can be more open and say jokingly, "Why did it take you so long to say it. Anyway, I feel great hearing you say this.
There are many other ways of thanking but the single most important factor is to overcome your awkwardness and show your appreciation of a compliment

A simple "thank you", and tell them those compliments encourage you...you'll do a better job next time...if it's a work project, just say you wish you would have the opportunity to work together with them in future so that you guys can share all the joy

It's simple, you smile appreciatively and say, "Thank you, I'd take it as a compliment". That's it. Don't worry too much, it's typical and formulaic like that. I mean lots of people are too busy to watch you all the time, it'd take just a few seconds in the process, I presume.

My psychologist noticed that I would never accept a compliment. He noticed that I had very low self-esteem and I found it awkward that anyone would want to compliment me. He taught me to simply say "thank you!"
Now I say "thank you" automatically without a second thought, and it doesn't seem awkward. I realized if I were to hesitate and try to say anything else, it only shows that I have low self-esteem and am unable to accept compliments.

This is actually a quite typical awkward response! The best thing you can do is say "thank you." By saying thank you, you acknowledge the other person's genuine compliment... by gushing and saying, "oh no.. it wasn't that good" you are actually saying to the other person that you do not value what they have to say. A simple thank you will suffice.

You should politely tell them"Thank you", and continue to do your best. It is good to recognize those that do a good job as well as being recognized. Accept the compliment as I am sure you deserved it.

just smile really big and say "thanks for the compliment! How nice of you to say so"
That's all that is required, and before long, you'll be more comfortable with receiving compliments.

Two things. What ever they complimented you on, compliment them back with more enthusiasm.
ex I like your shoes
reply: I like YOUR shoes
or you can make a joke out of it:
I like you shoes
reply- what about my pants?
or - i stole them off a hobo
or- I won them on bingo night. Stacy put big up big money on G14 and lost everything.
etc etc etc
anything but sit there daftly and smile thanks their white, I got them at cleves. you know.
And when it comes to a job well done. Well I couldnt have done it without the guidance of you blah blah blah etc etc regardless of how untrue it may be.
or make a joke out of it as in yeah I totally ripped it off CHAZ (or whoever) whatever. If you network, socialize, and are likeable, you will go a lot farther in life.
And awkward is funny if you play it up man. Be weird man people like it. And in trying to be weird you might accidentally be normal.

lol you could say thanks but sometimes that can be sorta awkward especially if the person who compliments you really doesnt know you or yall dont talk.
sometimes saying something like right after you say thanks makes it less awkward. for example
"hey i like your shirt"
"thanks i got it on sale too. yaya whatta deal! "
lol or somethin like that...
sometimes being funny about it doesnst make it weird
