Proactiv didn't work for me, either. For a short-term over the counter remedy, try something with salycilic acid in it. Proactiv is benzoyl peroxide-based. I find that some people's skin reacts to one or the other better. Since you didn't respond well to benzoyl, try salycilic.
For the long-term: www.1800herbdoc.com, Dr. Richard schultze's body cleanses. I stopped taking all medication and eating an organic diet two years ago. I have done quite a few body cleanses since, and it took 1.5 years, but I finally feel that most of the toxins have "left the building". There was a period of time where my skin actually got worse for 7 months.
They say that when you have toxins in the system, the body first clears them from the internal organs, and pushes them outward (to get them out of the body). Then, once they finally reach the skin, that actually means you are getting healthier! The skin is the body's largest organ, and is very active in eliminating toxins!
I still struggle with acne, but not nearly as much as I used to. I think mine is due to a hormone imbalance, which has also been helped with natural herbs. I use Vitex. If you are male, you won't want to use Vitex. Try an anti-androgen like Saw Palmetto, which I hear also curbs baldness.
The best herbs for cleansing the skin are Burdock and Yellow Dock, but I don't beleive those will be entirely effective unless you clean the rest of your body first :)
Good luck! If all else fails, see a NATUROPATH. Not a doctor or dermatologist- they will just prescribe something for you that will put more poisons in your body.

Sorry, I am a huge proactive fan. I found it wasn't working too well but I wasn't using it everyday. when I made all 3 steps part of my daily routine it worked wonders. I have some weird little tips which I find work. Drinking lots and lots of water, changing my pillow slip every couple of days (strange but true, the oil on the slip from your hair isn't good for your skin while you sleep) and I never touch my face with my fingers. Your fingers pick up a lot of bacteria during the day, you don't want to transfer that to your skin... not very scientific I know but they work for me... Also being a vegetarian helps (less toxins in my system).

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Face pack for acne prone skin would be of honey (1 tsp) with 1/2 (tsp) of cinnamon powder. Apply for 15 minutes. Due to the antiseptic properties, bacterial infections in the skin are treated. More home remedies available at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html

Drink so plenty greater water. do no longer touch your face until you wash your palms basically in the previous touching it. save your hair out of your face. i'm plenty older than you and that i nonetheless have zits. rigidity seems to flare mine up. I certainly have additionally tried each and every cream there is, which contain Retinal A. And that replaced into nasty stuff. The zits have been nonetheless there however. Get right into a cleansing ordinary it fairly is: cleanse, tone and moisturise. Use products from the food market that are designed for youthful skin, and steer away from cleansing milks (they'll block your pores). Get cleansing gels. Your skin would be worse for 2 weeks, then stick it out for yet another 2 weeks to verify if it does something. there are various cleansers that help with micro organism. there's a nutrimetics product referred to as "Nutriclear" that seems to calm my skin and supply it a classic matte-end colour (no longer the extensive-unfold pink). in one day, attempt to detect a product with particularly some zinc in it. That facilitates. while you're in Qld, Australia (or have any pals who're), get a product referred to as "B.O.Z. Cream" from any chemist. That stuff is gold for zits - positioned it on sparingly on each and every occasion, and a thicker coat a night on an identical time as you sleep. Takes a on an identical time as to artwork, whether that's magnificent.

Time to see a dermatologist for prescription meds. such as topical anti-biotics, Retin-A, Differin, etc.
Over the counter products add up $ - so see a doctor to get to the bottom of your skin problems and the most effective treatment.

You need to see a dermatologist. Differen works very well but I think you need a perscription for it. As for Retin-A, if you have sensitive skin it can burn you and leave your face red. There are also lots of antibiotics you can take.
