You hear all the time about how people convert to Christianity from another religion, or to another sect of Christianity, or to Islam, or to Buddhism, or to paganism.
But, how come people aren't converting to Judaism?
BTW, I am Catholic, and have no intention on converting to any other religion. Personally, I believe that Christianity fulfills the Old Testiment prophecies, therefore there is no need to convert to a religion that is waiting for something to happen what already has. However, I do not feel that this has anything to do with it.
Opinions please...

people do convert to judaism.
but Judaism does not seek out converts.
in fact people are turned away when they first want to...
you hve to *really* mean it to become jewish, you have to study and learn and commit to it.
I mean men who are not circumcised, have to have it done in the process of converting....
basically it boils down to that jews don't seek to convert people.

People do convert to Judaism- from all other religions. It happens but it isn't widely publicised. i have a good friend who converted from Catholcism when he was a teenager (his parfents disowned him at the time, though they relented when his first child was born). My cousin married an Irish Catholic guy that converted (his family loved the Jewish wedding). And both converted Orthodox.
it also depends where you go- in my synagogue we see a lot of converts and people converting since our rabbi is involved with running the conversion programme. So at anyone time we will have one or two people in the synagogue that are in the process of converting.

a) because we don't ask them to. when people think of abrahamic religions, they automatically think of christianity and none else, and many people leaving christianity think judaism is just christianity minus jesus, and so people who leave christianity and are looking for other religions simply never think to consider judaism, and since we aren't getting in their face and asking them to join us then most people generally never remember us as an option.
b) because people don't usually jump with excitement at the idea of joining a religion that will restrict their dietary choices, sexual lifestyle, clothing, employment opportunities, where they can or cannot live, where their children can go to school, and so on and so forth. most people who were not born into the jewish lifestyle simply have a hard time adopting it due to all of the unnatural-seeming rules.

you cannot convert to Judaism without coming to the Jewish Messiah Yeshua/ Jesus
Judaism today is ichabod-we lost the temple and those that had the blood atonement in Messiah Jesus continued on in true Judaism -the others made new religions calling them orthodox conservative or whatever Judaism.
they say we dont missionize-yet Jonah went to the gentiles and brought them to God.
Isaiah 9:6 promised "Unto us will be born a child, a son will be given and he will be the almighty God and the prince of peace."
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 He will be exalted. He will be despised and rejected and lay down his life as a lamb to make atonement for our sins.
and try Catholic Charismatic there they receive the Messiah Jesus into their heart as he asks us to do Revelation 1:1 &3:19&20 otherwise you miss the joy of salvation and knowing the Messiah personally as a best friend as we do in Messianic Judaism.
very good question too, thanks David

I read only the Tanakh(Old Testament). I eat Kosher, but no, I am not a Jew. I didn't convert because I don't know if I will be commited in a few years.
Anyway,
I'm gonna write the Torah on a new book so that I can always have it.

I have met a few, but it is because we dont go out looking for converts.
Personally I prefer quality over quantity.
