Back pain is nefariously difficult to treat with any sucess, it's just a matter to trying different things until you find the combo that works for you. You have surgical options to fuse the discs, although that may not alleviate all the pain and it will limit your lower back mobility permanently. You can also try physcial manipulation, either at the hands of a chiropracter or a Doctor of Osteopathy. You can try a TENS unit, which is an electrical shock device which delivers a low electric shock to the nerve that's screaming to overload it and shut it down. Long soaks floating in a pool or hot tub take pressure off as well sometimes. Don't discount the medications entirely, they have uses, and sometimes work best in combination with other things. You can also try an inversion board, to hang upside down and decompress the spinal column a little. It won't be a permanent solution, of course, but it will take some pressure off the damaged discs and nerves. Otherwise, there is no one size fits all solution. You just have to experiment and find what works best for you.

Welcome to my world. I have this and some other serious back issues also. When I'm really sore I fold a towel and lay on the floor with it in the small of my back just above my hips. (like a flat square) It will take your breath away at first but as you relax you'll feel better. Bring one bent knee up at a time and do very small stretches to your chest and to each shoulder. It will help. Just go very slow and relax as you do it. Walking is good in moderation. Get gel insoles for your shoes. Take your pills when you need them. Make sure you sleep with a pillow between your legs if you sleep on your side and do not sleep on your stomach. Get a new mattress and be sure to keep our weight reasonable. Do not lift anything heavy. Good luck. I know how you feel.

How many different Chiropractors have you seen? It may be time to seek a few professional consultations from these specialists in degenerative spinal disorders.

Have they considered surgery to repair them? See a good orthopedic doc for surgery and also see a pain management doc too.
