Unfortunately the advertisement doesn't quote casting weight, which is an essential required piece of information about any spinning rod. That's because it doesn't only tell you what weight of lure it can cast, it also gives an indication of what size of fish it could cope with. The tag "medium" really means very little, although I would guess that it's probably a bit on the lightweight side if you are going to be catching barracudas. That means the fish will put a really big bend in the rod and you won't have as much power as you would like to control them. For smaller fish though the setup should work just fine. And if you do get into a barra, just hang on tight!

I'm near the Gulf of Mexico so I go to saltwater whenever I can. However, I've also learned to tie flys. I've got a really light weight fly rod. I actually caught some fresh water fish with a fly I designed and tied myself. I released them, but I had a ball.

Yes saltwater fishing is fine, but There is something calming about fishing in a brook for a nice catch of freshwater trout.and then firing up the grill to cook them. bettyk

I suppose as far as catching it certainly has to do with where you live. I have fished both, but am primarily a freshwater fisherman. As far as one over the other, they both have pros and cons. Each has an acquired taste. I prefer freshwater fish to eat. To me there is nothing better than a mess of perch or bluegills. Also walleye are very good, nice white and flaky meat. Very tasty!!

Definatly salt water. Most fresh water fish are bottom feeders and they have a gritty muddy taste kind of unpleasant.
