about 1 in 20 people have at least 2 or 3 symptoms out of the 25 that experts use to classify schizophrenia....most have a family history of some sort of mental illness or have had some sort of severe trauma in their lives......my best friend and godmother to my daughter...her husband....has had this illness for almost 20 years now ever since he came back from Vietnam, where he did two tours as a navy seal....with the correct medication he does just fine and has his own photography business.

I wish I could give you a number but I think it is one of the saddest things that can happen. A person goes along with a normal life, cheerleader, football player and then poof about 18-22, they just gradually slide into schizophrenia to never return again. I know someone who married early had 4 kids and then his wife became schizo, isn't this sad ? He loved her ,now what, you dont' just dump them but they are nearly imposssible to live with and yet it is only like they got an illness like chicken pox in their brain.
