I think it is very important to examine our conciences daily and before confession. I try to ask the Holy Spirit to help me when I go to confession. Does anyone know any good websites or ideas for an examination of Concience for confession?

To answer the person below, Jesus wants us to confess our sins to a priest. He gives his apostles power to do so when he says "whoever sins you forgive are forgiven and whoever sins you retain are retained." This confession is a great blessing in the Church. It is a sacrament and does give actual grace. I love confession.

Edit - Well in all reality you are confessing your sins to Jesus. Jesus is working through the priest and it is God that forgives your sins through the ministry of his priesthood.

You can go through the ten commandments and the particular sins that pertain to them. Examine your heart and ask yourself how have you loved others. It is a great start to pray to the Holy Spirit for a good confession and a true contrition of your sins which your should ask for prior to entering the confessional. God love you

I have found this one from St. Charles Borremeo Church to be the most helpful and the most thorough. The website page is user friendly, too, and easy on the eyes.
http://www.scborromeo.org/confess.htm
It goes through every single commandment and asks specific questions and also includes an Act of Contrition and steps for a good confession.
It also lists other sins related to commands of the Catholic Church, and includes some beautiful Scriptures related to sin and forgiveness.

I'm just curious... real question here...
why do you need another person there to "confess" to?
I mean in Judaism theres nothing remotely equivalent to christian confession, on Yom Kippur theres one of the prayers where each person "confesses" various iniquitys personally and on behalf of humanity... but its not PERSONAL to another person...
its to God.
is it so hard to introspect and examine your concience without talking to another person?
edit:>>" This confession is a great blessing in the Church. It is a sacrament and does give actual grace. I love confession."<<
I guess I can see it .... .... but I just can't imagine it.
I repent and ask forgiveness from God. and God alone. I don't understand why it would be neccesary to have a person receiving... when I can repent to God himself for my wrongdoings...

*Is Catholic*
Depends on how deep you want to go.
St. Ignatious' Spiritual Exercises is quite good but deep. Fr. Gawronski (who I had as a prof) does an exellent audio version
http://www.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/file_index.asp?SeriesId=6142&pgnu=
Or there is a very basic guide here

There are many good things out there.

try looking at the 12-step program of alcoholics anonymous. The step you would be looking for is the 10th step:
"Continued to take a personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it."
This is something to be practiced on a daily basis.

I believe it is better practice to examine your own conscience.
Have a good day.

"Create in me a clean heart, O G-d
And restore a right spirit within me."
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O L-rd, my strength and my redeemer."
I love singing a song by Kathryn Scott from her album "Satisfy"
" Search Me Know Me"
Search me know me
Try me and see
Every worthless affection hidden in me
All I'm asking for is that You'd cleanse me Lord
Create in me a heart that's clean
Conquer the power of secret shame
Come wash away the guilty stain of all my sin
Clothe me in robes of righteousness
Cover my nakedness with grace
All of my life before You now I humbly bring

and "Hashmieni" from "Go Through the Gates" by Barry and Batya Segal
http://daniel2005.pl/muzyka/hebrajskie/08.html (old recording but still good)
It is from Ps. 143
Translation
" Bring word to me in the morning of Your unfailing love for I trust in You
Show me the way I should go for to You I lift up my soul
Rescue me from my enemies Ad-nai for I hide myself in You
Teach me to do Thy will for You are my G-d
May Your Good Spirit (Ruchacha Tova) lead me on ground of levelness.... "

No, I don't know of any good websites for that purpose.
Examination of your conscience should happen every second of every day.
