You're supposed to taper SSRIs off slowly, over the course of a month or two, depending on your dose and how long you've been taking them. You're not supposed to just stop them abruptly. Your "brain shocks" are a common symptom of SSRI withdrawal. It's your brain adjusting to the change in serotonin levels available to it. According to just about every source I've read, SSRI withdrawal (and the symptoms that come with it) are not life threatening, but you should consider a tapered withdrawal, as they can last for weeks. As always, consult your doctor.

Im not sure what lexapro is ? What are you being treated for ? If this is an antidepression drug , than 1 beer no , cuz would you stop at 1 ? To be honest with you , any type of prescibed meds should not be taken with any type of achohol .. Meds of any type can not work the way they are intended if mixed with beer , or any achoholic beverages .. Have a soda , or perhaps a spritz of of lemon with water , Ok sounds yucky , but safer .. Hope you have a good time anyway , We don't need to drink to be a part of the party ,,

Im a pharmacy tech and with that type of medication you are not supposed to stop cold turkey. You brain has become dependent on that drug, so in reality you are going though withdraws. You need to see you md asap. You should have tappered down your dose like 5 mg for a week then 2.5 mg a week then 1.25 mg for a week then every other day. You are supposed to have blood levels check to make sure it is coming out of your body. Next time you decided to do something like this consult your md or a pharmacist(free info all day).
Hope you get better

I hope you didn't do this cold turkey because that is going to cause major side effects. I suggest that you go back on it to stop the side effects and gradually come off of it. It took me six weeks to come off of 40mg. (I have depression and anxiety). Under the supervision of my neurologist, and added Cymbalta as I was coming off the Lexapro. I only changed because of weight gain, it really helped me with the other problems.
You put your brain in shock because the Lexapro helps get the neurotransmitters firing on a regular basis, so you'll have a regular chemical balance. Talk with your doctor and he'll tell you how to come off of it or prescribe something else that better suits your body. Be careful and best wishes.

i know exactly what you mean! i think they call them "brain zaps". i took lexapro for years and when i stopped taking it i felt awful. even if i missed a pill one or two days i felt it. you are exactly right it really feels like your brain is shocking your body, it's the weirdest and most annoying feeling. what you're feeling is a physical symptom of withdrawal, just like you would feel if you were on any other drug and quit cold turkey. for me they lasted for a little over a month. everyone is different, but they should start to go away in a few weeks if you stopped taking the lexapro two weeks ago. i feel for you, and i really do think the "brain zaps" will stop for you soon, you just have to stick it out. good luck!

With any psychotic meds they should slowly be reduced over a period of time directed by a Doctor!!!!!! Never on your own!!! I don't know if this is the case but if I were you I would go to the Doctor's immediately!!! You are possible going in sane. I know someone who skipped 3 days of paxil and lost it totally!!!!!! You should never change your meds without talking to your Doctor!!!!!!!

You should have slowly reduced the dosage over a period of time instead of quitting cold turkey. This would probably have reduced the withdrawal symptoms.

first off...you should never just quite taking any kind of anti-depressant meds. you should slowly quite. i use to be on lexapro myself and had dizzy spells. i started back on the meds and winged myself off of it. since you take a pill daily, you should do this...week one, go all seven days...week two, go six days...week three, go five days...ect...until you are off of it officially...good luck

this is the reason they tell you not to quit taking it cold turkey. you should have weened yourself off slowly. it should end soon but consider the fact that you were on it for a reason. could it be that you need something else? that it isn't "withdrawel" but that your symptoms returning?
