DIdn't Jesus say that prayer was a private thing, and that people who want to put their act of prayer on display were showboats and hypocrites?
If you want to pray, can't you pray in silence at any time? I mean even while the teacher is talking, you could be sitting there praying to yourself, right? Don't do it over the intercom and shove it down the throats of others, that's just wrong.

Via how can the school stop your kids from praying in silence? Isn't that kind of like trying to stop someone from thinking about something? Sounds impossible to me.

If your kids want to fold their hands and bow their head, they can do like the Muslim kids do and duck out to the library during lunch period.
But I don't see why they can't stare into space and say the same prayers that they would if their head was bowed or hands folded.

Mostly all parents from diverse religions want their kids to pray at school so that their kids in a certain time, are well surrounded with their other friends of same faith and prayer in group enhance their faith.
Kids are not like adults. They need to be taught and reminded and it is not something you do once a week, it should be constant. It won't hurt or cause loss to anyone if, say, 30 minutes are given to kids of all faith to group themselves and perform prayer/s.

I am a Christian and I agree with you. Any prayer that met the Constitutional test of not establishing a religion would be a meaningless prayer to my God. It is better for kids to pray when they want to on their own, that way they can have a meaningful prayer to God, without having to conform to anyone else's idea of prayer instead of saying a rote piece of drivel that fits the goveerments idea of an inclusive prayer for all.people and faiths. It is my job to teach my kids about my faith. I want the government to stay out of it!!!

Interesting choice of words:"shove it down the throats of others". Seems perfectly Ok to shove atheism down the throats of others. Seems perfectly Ok to shove environmentalism down the throats of others. Seems Ok to shove sex education and condoms down the throats of others.
But what if some poor atheist accidental hears a prayer? How will he ever recover? Who cares that public schools had daily prayers in them from the moment they came into existence until the 1960's when some unelected judges finally got it right. They were smart enough to know that the Constitution really means you should not pray in school. Even if that means that we have to dismiss the fact that the Founding Fathers themselves prayed in schools and so did their children. They wrote the Constitution but thank goodness we had liberal Supreme Court Judges to figure out that they really did not intend to have prayer in schools. Of course it took from 1776 until 1963 to figure that out.

I'm not asking for a public demonstration.
I do want my kids to be ABLE to pray quietly if they so choose.
That's what I want to stay in the schools.
EDIT. If they see my child folding their hands and bowing their head, will it be considered "preaching"?
EDIT. 2 If taking that approach, one who does not believe in prayer does not have to acknowledge it. (No, I don't think anyone should feel singled out as a result of not praying etc) My child should still be able to pray, the bowed head and folded hands simply close out distractions., no need to go to another room.

I don't want prayer in school for people of my faith alone. If Christians are allowed to pray, everyone should be allowed to pray.

You're misinterpreting it. He meant, dont brag about how ur a great Christian, that you give lots of money to poor, and say ur a deep spiritual person.
Prayer in school...I haven't really heard that much, i thought it was teaching the Bible. Besides, even if there is intercom praying, you can still ignore it.
