If so, which ones? Are they local or national? What is the involvement?

I guess what I meant by atheist activism organizations would be those that work on voters when laws/bills based on religious principles are on ballots, that type of thing.

I'd love to see atheistic social organizations (similar to the religious church concept) crop up around the country so we could have covered dish suppers and craft bazaars, too. LOL!

I was in a Secular Humanist group for about a year. I found, for me, it was too negative. I volunteer at a few places now, none of them specifically Atheistic.

I'm not a member of any specifically atheist groups, but I do volunteer for secular organizations.

There's quite a division around here; the college culture is sympathetic to atheism, the surrounding area is pretty intolerant of it. Being involved in an atheist organization would either be preaching to the choir or getting your car keyed constantly.

That kind of thing doesn't exist. There is nothing based on Atheism that does anything. Atheists do things out of the goodness of their hearts, not to say they're Atheists and have their belief take credit for it.

Atheism isn't really something that inspires social group forming. It should be, but it's not. I mean, what would we do? Just quote ridiculous passages from the bible and laugh? Or think of all the ludicrous beliefs held by the lesser folk? We can do that online.

I'm an Atheist who doesn't believe in changing anyone's beliefs or religion. I respect everyone's choices.

So I don't belong to any Atheist organization. This choice that I've made is just for me.

I have never heard of any such groups in my area, nor do i see the point. People rallying around disbelief seems silly to me, unless it was a debate group. Gathering people with the same opinions in one area doesn't further thought, only objective debate allows people to hone their arguments to perfection.

Alas, they are too few and far between. But I do enjoy posting and reading messages on http://www.freethinkerscs.com and used to attend meetings when I lived in CS.
They even have great potlucks every month!

Yep. I'm the head of my college's club (and founder) and a member of several national orgs.

Nope. I do not want to get rid of religion, just limit it so it isn't running the world.
