Not shaping up "like" but shaping up exactly as written in Revalations. Isn't that something? Pops

If you look back through history, you can apply the book of revelations to just about any point in history. There were people who were very convincing at pinpointing events in the 1800s to the Book of Revelations, and had people completely believe the final judgement was in the 1890s. Of course people stood on a hill and nothing happened. And they pointed to events that were 30, 50 years back to 'prove' it just like people do now saying "hitler is in there".

And there are many other instances where groups of people or there was widespread belief they were living out the Book of R.

I do believe, as a historian and a Christian that the Book of Revelations was written to be specifically about things that were going on WHEN it was written.

It is unique to certain sects of evengelical Christians (which I am not one) to put great emphasis on the "tribulation" - note a lot of televangelists on tv talking about it and the "Left Behind" books. But if you look back, they have been emphasizing that for generations.

Nope, Revelation was about the Roman persecution of Christians.

Even if it was a prophecy, what makes it any different than saying world events are shaping up like the Prophecies of Nostradamus?

At least once each generation "events shaping up like the book of revelations" show up, or somebody will believe they are.

What book of revelations? Aren't they all?

Perhaps you mean the Book of Revelation of St. John the Divine.

The title of the final book of the St. James version of the Bible does not have an "s" at the end of it.

People have thought we were living in the end times for centuries. Possibly the world will always look like Revelations? There has always been war, famine, natural disasters, etc. etc. what's so different about today?

You should ask this question in the myths and folklore section. This book of revelations is someones dream of what life will be like in the future. I have my doubts of the writers sanity and mental impairment. It is all bunk.

People always find something to compare to in the Bible. you'd have to get in line with all the preachers for the last several thousand years who said the same thing.

Ever since the end of the 1st century. Maybe this time it will happen.
