He is certainly the best driver through the first 9 races this year, but it is very hard to pick a winner when the Chase begins. Kenseth was ahead going into the Chase last year and Johnson won the title. In the first Chase Kurt Busch was 7th in points but won the title. If Gordon drives the last 9 races like the first 9 he will win his 5th title. I think that he will be at least 3rd all time and possibly 2nd. He is only 6 wins behind Cale Yarborough and 7 behind Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip. He should pass those next year and he is now only 28 wins behind David Pearson who had 105. With his age he could pass Pearson in 5-6 years if he stays at the same level. He won't catch Richard Petty who had 200 wins. I am not a Gordon fan ( like Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, and Carl Edwards the most) but I recognize that he is already one of the greatest drivers ever. He may be 2nd popular but I honestly think 75-80% of the fans like Junior best and Jeff is far behind him, but Gordon is the better driver of the 2 at this stage.

the proper modern-day ever. I basically back from holiday and the race became the 1st project I watched once I have been given domicile. With Gordon being my famous driver it became the proper modern-day ever for me thinking it became using me insane no longer having the ability to observe the race at Martinsville and the commencing up of Texas. Congrats Jeff. To undesirable that his spouse and daughter could no longer be with him in Victory Lane nevertheless. it fairly is is the 1st of many wins for Jeff Gordon and a championship opposition as quickly as extra!!

Probably, but only because the great one died.
NOT Earnhardt, you rednecks! Alan Kulwicki!
Anyone remember how many wins Kulwicki had when he won the Winston Cup? The answer is: ZERO!!!!! Too bad, because he had the all time greatest victory lap, and only did one.
Jeff's career total? A few hundred wins behind Dick Trickle, who won literally THOUSANDS of races, admittedly not all of them Winston Cup races.

As a Jr. fan I hope not, but as it looks right now he will win it without a doubt. Last couple years this time of year he doesn't do to well. Toward the end he just gets on a roll. If the this trend goes the same way. It is his to lose.

With the current Chase format it's a toss up. Gordon could have a 500 point lead going into Richmond (September) but that all gets eraced

he will will get the nextel cup win this year. i think hell have about 7 or more wins. i think hell get second in most wins. hell retire in many many years, how ever long it takes for him to get at least second for most wins. he will probably win, if not finish in the top 5 at richmond. he is unstopable right now. people boo him and throw crap because he is better than them, and the racer they root for, as well they have absolutly no class and are white trash. and everyone says gordon cries? look at those loser fans and who they root for, like tony stewert. they are not true NASCAR fans, they are a disgrace to NASCAR and give it a bad rep. very imature on their part, if they cant except that gordon will rewrite record books and set records, then they dont need to watch the sport. earnhardt was going to get passed anyway, weather it was by gordon or not. and all those earnhardt fans should respect gordon considering gordon and earnhardt were good friends.

it's impossible to tell really. Under the old format he would probably run away with it... With this new Chase format, his lead will be erased. There is a good chance that one of the Hendricks boys will win though, cuz half of the Chase races are COT...
