How is he acting otherwise? If he's playing and laughing, it's probably not terribly important. And what is the source of the fever? If he has a cold, the fever's a normal part of things. Nobody can be a substitute for his doctor on this forum, but I'll let you in on a doctor-secret: we don't care a flip about fever. The stories of fevers doing evil things are just that. Even fevers of 108 don't cause brain damage or anything like that. What doctors care about is the source of fever. It's almost always an infection, and the infections in kids are almost always self-limited viruses. The focus is entirely on screening for serious bacterial infections. If you have an obvious source, fine. If not, he's still under age three, and it's still worth a trip to the doctor just to be safe. After age three, the risk of serious infections goes way down, but even at his age, if he's drinking and acting more or less normal, the risks are only in the range of perhaps 2 or 3%, so try to keep things in perspective.

you can give him childrens tylenol as well as children's advil/motrin, call your pharmacist for accurate dosing though, instead of goin by age dosing i have to give it to my son according to his weight, since he is very tall.. big for his age. He's 3 and size of 5 yr old. Best thing to do is take him to emerg, get him looked at, make sure is not dehydrated, keep away from milk and juices, do not need to push the food so much, give him pedialyte or gatorade/water mix.. really push the fluids, do not keep him covered, just let him stay in his diaper. Use cool compress, not cold.. on his forehead, cheeks , back of his neck, palms of his hands and bottom of feet.. be careful , get him to doctor, not trying to scare you , but i've had alot of dealings with this with my son.. any time he spikes a fever, not so much does it matter how high it is, but how fast it increases, he is prone to havin febrile seizures. Very scary and you do not want your child goin through that trust me.. my son has had four major ones since 13 mths old and has led to him havin pettitmal seizures now.. if has already been two days, get him for medical care. I'm sure he'll be much better in few days.. take care.
