How do you say this in Spanish: Tenochtitlan was the capital of the azteca empire?

Also; how do you use the word, "was" without making it sound like you were going somewhere?

BTW is it: Tenochititlan fue un capitalidad de imperio de acteca. something like that???

Thanks for all your help!

It is as follows: Tenochtitlán fue la capital del Imperio Azteca.

The verb to be (was) has two meanings:
Estar = I was in Madrid (Yo estuve/estaba en Madrid)
Ser = I was a nurse (Yo fui/era enfermera)

Hope it was useful!
