Aslamu aleikum;
Quran Says:
2:125. Remember We made the House a place of assembly for men and a place of safety; and take ye the station of Abraham as a place of prayer; and We covenanted with Abraham and Isma'il, that they should sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or use it as a retreat, or bow, or prostrate themselves (therein in prayer).

aslam alaikum ,
God already knew what his covenant would be with Abraham (pbuh)because God is all powerful and merciful. This was Gods way of showing the world that all is not lost in the world, that someone doesnt love him more than anyone else. He already knew Abrahams decision and he already knew what Abraham could do for him. So in all Abraham didnt need to prove anything to God. Abraham was chosen by God to show the world who stands closest to him. And Abraham was one of them.

"... and through Abraham's offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because Abraham had obeyed God." (Genesis 22)
We (muslims) believe that because of Muhammad (instead of Jesus), God bless all nations.
Before Muhammad, all prophets were sent to the Israels only, including Jesus. That's why the phrase "Shema yisrael" is very popular.
You can read this passage from Gospel as well:
These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel." (Matthew 10:5-6 and please also read Mat 15:24). Holy Koran also states that Jesus was sent to the children of Israel (Koran 3:49), [and not for all mankind].
Furthermore, Jesus never related himself with Abraham. Instead, Jesus claimed that he already existed before Abraham did.
Muhammad on the other hand, several times connected himself with Abraham. In Holy Koran, Muhammad was stated as Abraham's offspring, and he was the gentile prophet (or Nabiyil Ummi in Arabic).
"The people most worthy of Abraham are those who followed him, and this prophet (i.e. Muhammad), and those who believe. GOD is the Lord and Master of the believers." (Koran 3:68)
and
"... the religion of your father Abraham." (Koran 22:78)
So, I believe, when Jesus said: "Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit." (Mat 21:43) it means that since the Israels denies their prophets, so God sent another prophet (gentile prophet) to other nation (gentile) i.e. the descendant of Ishmael because God had promised to Ishmael that He would make him into a great nation: "And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation." (Genesis 17:20)

As Christians, we are also born of God through faith in Jesus & inherit the blessings as Abrahams seed.
Galations 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

God did not make a covenant with Ibrahim. That is an old Hebrew story without merit. God does not choose.
