I too as a christian in the start of my walk constantly fought with and failed again and again. You have to remember that everyday you are crucifing the flesh.

1 Cor 10;13
No temptation has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it.

Surround yourself around other Christians (True Christians). I know when I was going through I would get online and find online churches. You would be amazed how many of them there are now Taking your focus off of your flesh and worship Him. Ask yourself these questions:
1. Is this something keeping me from getting closer to the Lord.

2. Is this something dishonering God by not honoring my body as a temply Holy and acceptable unto Him?

3. Do I hate what I am doing -- Do I dislike myself after I have done it?

Take the time a prayer when this feeling overcomes you.
More than happy to prayer for and with ya. Check out paltalk to find some christian chat rooms.

This is a risk/reward thing. It's like still eating chocolate when you just KNOW that it will (eventually) make you fat.

You obviously get great delight in going back to the same thing (whatever that is), thus you will never break the habit, until you convince yourself that there are GREATER rewards for NOT doing "the same thing" than there are for doing it.

Once you've got that worked out, come back and tell me what you did, and couldn't stop doing, I love a juicy piece of gossip that I can share with everyone.

Have you're computer shut off for a month by your provider. A habit can be broken in 3 weeks. If you're youngish, sex is really powerful, and really has to be kept in control. I'm old now so its less of a draw. I think men just think this way. I had a friend ask me years ago why he couldn't help wrong thoughts anytime he talked to a woman. I wouldn't condemn yourself, just use your head. Wait a minute, you say your problem is smoking. I'm sorry, forget all the sex stuff.

Ask Jesus to reveal the root cause of what drives you to this habitual sin. I am in prison ministry and I don't mean this as an excuse, but when we struggle with habitual sin, there is a root cause. We believe a lie about God or ourselves. Jesus, who is the truth and hearing the truth from Him can set you free.

It may also help to have a more seasoned believer who has struggled with the same or similar problem as a mentor and accountability partner. Be wise in this decision. You do not need someone judgemental or self-righteous. Choose someone who is mature and cares for you.

First of all your not alone. Confess, know that the Lord still loves you SO much. Best help can be.... remove yourself from the temptation, get a Christian friend for accountability, and keep praying. You DON"T have the strength and never will so allow the Lord's strength to do it for you. Praying for you.

You need to do some self-exploration. Figure out what it is about this temptation that makes it attractive to you and then figure out what is missing inside yourself that makes you vulnerable to this temptation. Don't take the easy way out of using self-control as the excuse either. Usually, when we're vulnerable to any temptation, whether it's gambling, spending, sex, etc., it's because we're looking to fill or ignore some insecurity in ourselves. THAT'S what you have to get at and that's what you have to deal with in order for you to become immune to whatever it is about that temptation that continues to draw you.

I know you addressed christians, but i think all of us in whatever the faith have the same issue. It's the issue of being human; frail, and fallible. I've made the same "mistakes" over and over again. The best way to deal with it is to pray and ask God for guidance and strength to persevere. It may not happen overnight. It took me many years actually to stop doing what I was doing - also it depends on what it is that you are trying to avoid. I've done other things that took much shorter periods of time to stop and finally learn my lesson. But either way it's going to take time.

Recognizing the problem Is good. Many Christians believe they cannot fall. That is more dangerous.

There are many tapes out on this. Loving God means getting into all things of God. Make sure you're in a strong Bible believing teaching Church,

Get out of the things of this world. Delight yourself in heavenly things. You know your sin weakness , avoid it. Write on a piece of paper, "What would Jesus do and keep it handy.

Get involved with a Bible study or start one.

Jesus said, "If you love me, Keep my commandments" Love the Lord.

Do you know what the clinical definition of insanity is? Repeating the same thing hoping for a different result :)

This is what you are doing, trying to change something by doing the same tired old thing.

Here's how to change: don't do it anymore. I know, easier said than done, and yes, it will be hard at first. But do it anyway!

To get deliverance from a thing, you have to first acknowledge that it ought not be done. The next time you find yourself doing it, pray and ask God what is making you do it. (you feel pretty low at that point)

And once you realize that such desires arent coming from the Holy Spirit, youll see its coming from your sinful nature. Once you see its coming from your sinful nature, you need to ADMIT to yourself that you LOVE that sin. And the hardest part of all, you have admit you want to get rid of that love for the sin, and also want God to take it.

Then in the future, all you have to do is keep away from temptation knowing deep down that you are weak against it. Dont put yourself in situations that lead up to it, dont enable it, and recognize some of the things that LEAD up to it that you may have rationalized in the past as being innocent.

That is how myself and God got rid of a 15 year addiction to porn! I think the important thing is it takes effort from both of you to make it work and God certainly will do his part of you do your part. The Holy Spirit is capable of cultivating hatred for evil things in your life, even if you used to love them in your former life.
