why are some of the answers so cruel or insensitive? Questions from depressed people, people living with loss of loved ones, people concerned about serious problems, etc. deserve kind answers. You can speak the truth in love, no matter how hurtful the truth is. Why would anyone want to be smart alec or hurtful to these vulnerable ones? What possible purpose does it serve to kick someone when they're down?

Well, thanks you guys, but I wasn't talking about me. It just disturbs me at the effect some of these hateful answers have a person who already is in mental or emotional trouble.

I agree this is the wrong place to come for help, but it they are depressed, or young, or overwhelmed....I think they may feel it's the only option.

These people think they are going to get approval for putting someone else down. It is very immature.

I think some people get pleasure out of it, and some feel impowered by being able to say things where they are no more than an animated picture that they would never be able or want to say in person. When some people log on, they seem to think that the other people that they are lashing out at have no feelings, or are in some way not real because there is no emotion conveyed. If you see a person, hear a person, or even look at a person's hand writing you get some kind of response when you've hurt them, but if it's just typing on a screen I just don't think that some people care.

I can only guess that they are kids, or drunk, or are a little unstable. However, we are at the mercy of those nameless facessless people out there in cyber land. But those cruel, unsympathetic people might find themselves in the same place sometime and then they'll get a taste of their own medicine. There is no need to respond if all you want to do is be mean. I've been up-against-it a few times, and the answerers have always come through for me.

In defense of mean people though sometimes some people word the questions so ridiculously that we feel we have to be sarcastic to make them realize what they are asking.I got 'reprimanded' once for laughin at a persons question..for the love of pete they posted in R&S the home of good old Christian love and respect asking how to keep newer convert in their church from taking part in activities at the church because only people who grow up here deserve to help. to me that was ludacris !!! so I laughed . Now if anyone asks a serious question on here I give a serious answer to the best of my knowledge bascially if you ask a serious question weed through the junk and read only the ones that interest you

I agree. I either use humor to cheer them up or offer my words of compassion. Empathy is an emotion I'm growing into more these days. I'm sure the insensitive answers are from younger people who haven't experienced enough of life's ups and downs to know what living is all about. Either that, or they're retarded adults with less than half a brain between their ears.

there are alot ALOT of people that come on the computer, and stay there the whole time that they are awake, they have dull existances, and nothing to do, they are depressed, and feel that they cannot get along, or impress anyone, and that noone would take them seriously if they said something. so what they do, since they feel so bad, is try to make everyone else feel the same. then you have the jackass kids who come on here, the ones who get picked on at school, and they just want to talk to people like they can back themselves up, because they cant in real life, and this is a good medium to try and believe that you are a gangster. so in essence, the only people who give answers like that, are no life, no morals, no respect for others, and no respect for themself, losers!. i just let it go.

I think the same concept that applies in road rage kind-of happens on here too. It's very impersonal and, for less considerate people, easy to forget that you're dealing with human beings when it's just a disembodied cartoon picture on a computer screen. It IS unfortunate, though. I wonder how many people making one last desperate cry for help on here have gotten emotionally shot down and taken desperate measures as a result. It's a shame. People can be awfully heartless.

Some people are cruel and insensitive, and some people are nice. That's just the way it is. If everyone was nice then we wouldn't need laws, or police, or governments to keep people in line.

What a wonderful world that would be.

Blame the nature of the Internet world.

Anonymity leads to unchecked behavior. Who is going to care?

There are counseling websites that will answer with more moral support and compassion than Yahoo Answers.

I sometimes compare YA to vultures sitting in a tree waiting for the right moment: See pic:

Sometimes when I get the same answers I picture this:

Most people don't see beyond far. Many people need wisdom and knowledge but wisdom is much more important than knowledge. People get angry and stuff because they don't see someone else's view point. Many should 'walk in someone else's shoes' so they think about it and make the best decision out of the most information that person has.
Point of view is the key to all insults, disrespect and stuff.

Unfortunately some of the posters here at Y/A are either way too young to be giving advise to serious matter OR the ones that are older and should know better are just plain insensitive and ignorant to the impact of some of the cruel, sarcastic comments they give.. Im not a Saint i have given some sarcastic answers myself but it's usually to silly or inmature questions
