Ok, I just sawy someone post this, I quote them:

"it takes just as much faith to believe in atheism as it does to believe in God. to make the absolute statement “God does not exist” is to make a claim of knowing absolutely everything there is to know about everything – and of having been everywhere in the universe there is to go – and having witnessed everything there is to be seen. of course, no atheist would make these exact claims. however, that is essentially what they are claiming when they state that God does not exist."

- So it's what you are claiming when you say Zeus and Thor don't exist?

Once again, christians pick out THEIR god as the only possible god.
Thoughts on this ridiculous quote?

My only thought is that it is not only ridiculous but idiotic and crazy. Why would thinking that God doesn't exist be claiming that they know everything? My advice to you is to not even bother with trying to understand these kind of people. Just laugh and forget it...

I don't understand when theists ask atheists questions that they should be asking themselves. Science can explain ALOT about our world. I'm not sure if you've ever heard of "peer-reviewed journals," but it's not as if a scientist comes up with a theory and suddenly it's being taught in schools. Science is extremely methodical, and thorough. It doesn't take any faith to believe in cold, hard evidence. Sure, I may not have PERSONALLY carbon-dated that fossil, but...a scientist did, and the method for dating fossils based on the decay of elements has been tested and proven over and over again. The thing is, just because we don't know EVERYTHING about the universe does not mean "god did it." That is a logical fallacy and i'm not sure why so many people think it is an acceptable explanation for our world. Religion has NO evidence to support it, and is therefore completely faith-based.

It doesn't take faith, just common sense.

Maybe it takes faith in the sense that human society has for so long viewed life as sort of a dress rehearsel for the big show after you die. Knowing and accepting the fact that your lifetime is the only existance for you can be distressing.

But strict Atheism is as flawed an ideology as religion itself. Nobody can logically say that there is absolutely no possibility of a higher power existing.

But if you live your life and gather knowledge based on evidence, you can only come to the conclusion that such matters have no effect upon your role as a living individual.

Most people confuse Atheists and Agnostics. A majority of people who don't believe in God wouldn't assert that they know absolutely that God doesn't exist. They would just argue that it is impossible to know whether he does or not and there is no evidence to believe that there is one. A logical person doesn't accept an argument by default. Given the world around us the default should be, there isn't a higher power because there is no solid evidence of it, convince me that there is if you want me to climb aboard this way of thinking.

The statement should be - "I believe that God does not exist because there is no hard evidence to believe that he does."

Believing in God flies in the face of those reasons you've given just as much. Just because some story of a miraculous man and a book passed through the centuries telling it are here and these ideas influenced our society so greatly doesn't provide logical evidence of God's existance.

It's easy to believe in God so you have a great big happy ending to look forward to.

I'm not really sure what is claimed that I have faith "of."

To have faith is to make an assertion without the backing of any evidence.

I have never made the assertion, "There is no god."

I have made the assertion that, "All arguments that I have ever studied, after several years, have failed to prove the existence of god, and the nature that he is purported to have is not open to observation; therefore I choose not to believe."

I have made the assertion that, "The divine being as described by theism consists of contradictory qualities. Therefore, Theism is not a feasible intellectual position."

And, I have made the assertion that, "To have faith is a personal, private matter, and it should stay that way."

I've also made the assertion that, "Science, logic, and Atheism are not necessarily related. Atheists, myself included, often use science and logic as part of their epistemology, but the three are not, stricly speaking, tied together."

Where have I had faith in all of this? If I can back it up factually, it isn't faith.

I never categorically claim there is no god. I simply claim the case has not been made to my satisfaction that there is a god. This requires only faith in my own sense of reason.

Non atheists (and even a few atheists) often confuse that position with agnostism, but the differance is quite important, albeit subtle.

atheist in my opinion like to keep an open mind....speaking from an atheist point of view, if i saw some sort of proof and not just myths about hallucinations passed down through time then maybe id give it a shot...i think christians have alot of good points and the bible should be taken and read as a moral and learning experince about life for children and depressed....but to saythat if you dont believe every word of every sentence than u will forever burn seems out of the question....also if everyone either goes to heaven or hell then why is there haunted houses, and dont say the devil bc not all ghost are evil....ive had experinces with ghost, look up my story on my answers list if u care to hear about them....

Atheism isn't a faith, its a lack of evidence for anything else. I don't believe in atheism, it is just the state in which I am.

I believe theres a commandment, "thou shalt have no other gods before me". So basically the christians believe their god is a whiny little god who acknowledges the existence of other gods and is trying to cover them up.

I think it is an all or non proposition so far. If you believe in anything based on a lack of evidence then you should believe in all things based on their lack of evidence. You would almost be required to believe that Neil Armstrong invented Philidelphia Cream Cheese, That Hobbits hide under bridges with Trolls and that Snakes used to be able to talk to hungry housewives, enticing them with Apples.

They just want to show faith is required in everything, and they are right in having faith to god, because he existed. They just want to show that we have the wrong faith, and they have the correct faith, that's all.

What they do not understand it, we do not need faith to disbelieve anything. For example, when you ask them, do they believe in the Wiki Wiki man, they say this is bullsh**, but then you ask them so you have faith in wiki wiki man does not existed? Their answer is "How can I have faith in something you made up?" ..... Then when you tell them so in my view god is bogus, and it is something you had made up, so I cannot have faith in that. Their answer "God is real, you need to have faith to believe it does not exist, that is a form of faith too, and you have the wrong faith" ......

Weird ... isn't it? Hypocritical at best.
