I am able to playback previously recorded material before it stoppped working. I am able to record soud. Even on standby, i stil can't see the picture. The icons, battery life, dates, etc. are all visible on te blue screen

Playback mode is normal. I can still playthings back. In the record moe, it is like the lenscap is on. All of those icons are their. Sound is able to record. The lens is completely cleared of anything in the way.

Well, you could be a little more clear on where you see the blue screen...Is it on both recording and playback modes or just recording? If it is just on the recording mode, if you have 3CCD camcorder, one of the CCDs may have died. If you see this on every mode, one of the circuits could have fried.

question, does your camcorder have an AV adaptor/cord? if that is plugged in, that may disconnect video from the camera section and substitute video from the AV adaptor. my sony video walkman has 2-way video connectors so it did not record whenever a monitor was plugged into the output, which is also the input.... also some camcorders offer an audio only record option, check that out in your menu to be sure that is not activated.
