ok so im 17 and I want to get a tattoo so bad! i live in NY and they will not let me get it cuz im not 18 but my momis getting it for me as a graduation present and she even called to ask if she could consent and they said no! so i was wondering how old do u have to be to get a tattoo in NJ or PA with parent consent? thanx

ok so i looked up the tattoo laws and how old u hafta be and they were both 16 with parent consent! now does anyone kno of a good tattoo parlor u kno a clean, safe, and good artwork? thanx again

Not all tattoo studios will tattoo someone under 18 even if the law says they can. Most places will only tattoo 18+ - You're almost 18! Maybe just use this time to figure out what you want and design your tattoo and learn about the procedure and equipment.

I know for sure that you have to be 18 in Pennsylvania to get a tattoo because when I turned 18 I was the first in line, but I'm not positively sure about New Jersey but I do believe it's 18 also.

I think it is 18 all over, I have never heard of getting your parents permission for a tattoo if you are under age. every tattoo I have gotten they have checked my ID with that little scan thing they use in 7-11 to make sure it is real. I would suggest you wait the year and see if you still want one.

The laws have changes. In PA i think you can get away with it with id and your moms id and parental consent. In NY AND NJ its 100% illegal to tatt a minor.. period. If your mom signed for you she could go to jail and be charged with child abuse.
What i dont understand is.. your 17!!! youve waited seventeen years.. cant you just wait out the next few monthes until your legal???
Plus it will give you more time to look up artists and check out thier portfolios and more importantly find a clean shop!!!

In Pa you can get one under 18 if your parent is with you... I did in Pittsburgh when I was 16 with my mom's concent.
