Yes, there are penalties, and yes God punishes those He loves - just as a loving father would punish his children for wrong behavior out of his love for them.

For an example from the Bible, just read about King David when he sinned by committing adultry with Bathsheba and then arranged for her husband to be killed in battle. David repented and sought God's forgiveness, and God restored him. But his sins did not go unpunished. They had severe consequences. And, sometimes those consequences don't just affect us, but those around us.

"...do not make light of the Lord's discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." -Hebrews 12:5-6

The wages of sin is death. The penalty for dying in ones sins the 2nd death which is eternal separation from God. Man does suffer under the penalty of sin, broken relationships, destroyed relationships, Jesus said ones enemies would be of one's own household, father against son, mother against daughter. Then there is destruction of the our ability to be intimate with one another, our inability to produce friendships that are genuine, real, open and life long. The sins that we suffer, think of crimes that are committed against the innocent, children are abused, mentally sexually, and physically, adults, the elderly the same way, Society suffers crime and punishment cannot deter men from stealing, killing and destroying one another. The list goes on and on and on and the only solution is the Salvation in Jesus Christ, the baptism with the Spirit the keeping in step with the Spirit to overcome the above things.

The wages of sin , is Death. When people steal, lie, cheat, abuse, or any other sin, the doer will suffer from depression, poverty, ill health, not being able to sleep. Usage of drugs and alcohol, laziness, un-clean lives, suicide, lack of Spirit, and much more. When we sin, it is the children that suffer. The sins carry over into the third and the fourth Generation of those who sin and hate God. So I might be paying for the sins of my Grandfathers. Who knows ??

Hell is the penalty for sins, yet God heavily isn't there in Hell with someone-he will be in Heaven with those who have self belief. honestly everyone sins-human beings bypass to hell for no longer accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as their own Savior. Hell is the penalty of no longer believing in God, and in case you do not have self belief in Him, then you actually have an afterlife without Him, it really is Hell.

The wages of sin is death.
And on earth there is a natural consequence to sin. It always affects those around you as well as yourself in some way.

God does NOT have a penalty...the penalty is OURS -- not His. That penalty is (depending on the severity of the sin) a break in our relationship with God. Think of sins as something that has "come between" you and your neaest and dearest. That separation is painful and at times it just plain old aches...deeply.

As the saying goes, "If God seems far away, guess who moved?" I guarantee...it is not God who moves away from us!

Gratefully, the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Christian churches offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation as given to the apostles: "All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation": (2 Cor. 5:18)

Yes, the Church has the power to forgive in the name of Christ through her priests as Paul says that he also for gives in the "person of Christ": "To whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also; for if I forgave anything, to whom I forgave it, I forgave it for your sakes in the person of Christ..." (2 Cor. 2:10).

Sadly, many people believe that God covers a person's sins when asking for forgiveness. The Sacrament of Reconciliation allows the priest to absolve the sins of the penitent IN THE NAME of Christ...so that they are no longer there...not just covered over. But Martin Luther, the Father of Protestantism states in his Small Catechism that "a person receives absolution or forgiveness from the confessor, as if from God Himself, without doubting it, but believing firmly that his sins are forgiven by God in Heaven through it".

The wages of sin is death.

Redemption is through repentance, baptism in Jesus Name, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
