I am a christian, but I just realized something that might challenge everything i was raised to believe.
So God is all knowing right? And he knows what everyone will do? And who will be saved? and all you need to do to be saved is believe that Jesus died for your sins right?
So then why did he create us if he knew that some would not believe? why would he create us knowing that some would go to hell?
the fact that someone or something would willingly create something knowing that it would be destroyed or suffer, seems a bit... irrational. any thoughts on this?

Sounds like you are starting to use your head and think for yourself. The more you do this the less Christianity and religion is going to make sense.

He gave us choice, and told us what it was and why. There will always be those people who rebel, and you know why. Those people choose their end, not Him. He creates us all for different reasons and He gives us all different qualities, what we do with them is up to us. If we squander them and waste them, who's fault is it? It's not His fault we decide to waste what we were given.

He created all of us, 2 unbelieving parents give birth to a child that will later believe, does that mean the 2 parents should not have been created? If they were not created the child who will grow to believe would also not have been created. The choice is made by each person, and nobody can make it for you. Unbelievers can turn at anytime and become believers. Tomorrow is promised to nobody, even believers do not have the promise of tomorrow. Creation is not about man, it's about God and how great He is. God created all that we see and DON'T see, we are just here to witness it and give account of Him. Want to or not, you will be a witness to creation, that began the day you were born. All that's left is to accept the gift of salvation since you have fallen, or to stay attached to your sin and be thrown into the lake with it. The choice is yours. Make it.

Excellent, a crisis of faith brought on by spiritual craving. Finally something good on here tonight. The Bible says what? "There is no other name under heaven by which to be saved." Keep in mind the One God is unnameable. Naturally there is no other name. "God so loved the world...that whosever believeth in Him should not perish..." The key is believing while you are in his spirit. Not just words. Do this first and don't worry about issues like predestination. You can tackle them another day. Get in his Spirit.

Repeat John 3:16 out loud several times. Repeat it silently. Think about it word by word. Then give Thanks and praise to God for whatever you wish to thank Him for. Do this until you feel really good about everything bothering you. Then be quiet, and still, and know that He is God. And listen. May God bless you.

When I was a Christian, this very question troubled me greatly. Everyone finds her own truth, I will share mine with you. A great and compassionate and loving creator would simply not set up a system which he knew his creations would "fail," then go ahead and create the system and the beings, and then go and blame the beings for doing exactly what he knew they would do and then say that the only way they can avoid eternal punishment for doing exactly what he knew they would do is to kill his only son (and didn't he make up that rule too?)...etc. It makes ZERO sense, and all the Christian double-talk about how we have free will but we choose to sin is not true! We have one or the other, and under one explanation we are automatons who are doing what God set up and we can't help it, in which case it isn't our fault, it is God's fault for setting up such a system, OR we DO have the choice not to sin, in which case some of us would surely have chosen such a way for themselves by this time in human history, and would be able to go straight to heaven without the intervention of Christ, and why do we need this anyhow, since God is omnipotent and makes all the rules, why did he make such DUMB ARBITRARY RULES?????

The point is, when you try to apply logic to Christianity, something has go to go. Either logic or blind faith in the absurd. Chosing a spiritual path is an important one, you should choose what is right for you. If your religion works for you blessed be. If not, will God be so mean and vicious as to send you to hell for seeking another truth?

I know Christians say theirs is the only truth. Sigh.....do you believe that?

It is not bad to challenge that what you have been brought up to believe. How would anyone learn if they did not question? I was brought up as a Catholic, but I no longer follow that religion. It just did not make sense to me.

Through my own studies of what to believe I read a book about an atheist named Howard Storm (The atheists are going to hate this, but why they bother reading ANY board about religion and spirituality is beyond me.)

He had near death experience. After he came back he was no longer an atheist. Anyway, when he asked which religion was the right one, the answer was- The one that brings you closer to God.

Works for me. Totally clicked.

BTW, Howard Storm's near death experience started in what he considered hell, but not fire and brimstone. It was more like a dark tunnel surrounded by conniving souls. But, it only lasted as long as he choose to stay there, sort of you -make- your- own- hell kind of thing.

I am sure you are not a Catholic because we have a different view of salvation. Here it is.

Faith justifies initially, but works perfect and complete our salvation. If all it takes to be saved is "to confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead" (Romans 10,9) then why must I change? Oh sure, I should change my sinful ways. I should try to please God. But if I don't does it really matter? My salvation is assured?

Salvation is a process of perseverance through faith, hope and love. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that one is justified or saved by "faith alone." On the contrary, man is not justified by faith alone. A person is justified by faith and works acting together, which comes solely from God's divine grace. Faith alone never obtains the grace of justification. Also, the word "justified" is the same word Paul uses for justification in Romans 4,3 in regard to Abraham (so Protestants cannot argue James is not referring to "justification" in James 2,24 unless they argue Paul wasn't either in Romans 4,3).

(See also: Luke 24,47; Acts 2,38, 3,19, 17,30; John 3,36; 2 Corinthians 10,15; 13,15; Galatians 5,6)

Concerning your other question, God does not really know whether we will accept him or not because he gave us the freedom to choose a life with him or a life separate from him. It is called free will.
Peace and every blessing!

If every time you Create something and give it a FreeWill--it Screws-Up, What are you agonna do?
You want a Family!
There agonna screw it up!
What do ya do?
You Create them, then Teach them NOT to Screw up and the ones who will not Learn--cease to exist at some point.

It is either that or Don't Create Anything and give it a FreeWill.
Ditto............what would you do?.....

In my opinion, God has remarkable affection for us human.
He loves us, he knows about us, and Jesus died for us.

I believe in God because the faith leads me to be a better person.
as a Christian, i believe that the only Savior is Jesus.
as a human being, i believe that the way to be saved is by doing nice and kind (purely not a fake) to all the people we met.

why did he create us?
ask yourself, why our mom and dad created us?
it's because they want us to be happy to be alive, and to have many experience to guide us to be a better person.

God created all humans with a free will...

Just because you know someone will reject you, doesn't give you the right to stop him by not giving him a chance.

God created us for his pleasure even knowing some of us would be bad. Would it be fair for him not to create us for the benefit of the good? I am a Christian and I am going to get to meet Him. I am glad He created us.

God gave you a choice, you take it or leave it. He cannot force anyone to do anything. He can tell you what he has in store for you but he knows us so well that he knew some would not listen, so he sent his only son so that we could see that God does exsist. Its ok to question God, in doing this he knows that you will seek out the truth. God is truth
