Most people are completely ignorant of the fact that the mentally ill, like bipolar disorder sufferers and schiphrenics, tend to have very high IQ's. I have schizoaffective disorder, a combination of the two. Schizophrenics also have physical visible differences when compared to a normal brain, enlarged sections. Both also tend to excel in the arts. I wasn't trying to be rude when I asked if homosexuality might be a mental disorder. I myself have schizoaffective disorder, a combination of both bipolar a schizophrenia. Beethoven, Motzart, Van Gough, where all bipolar. They where geniuses. Mental disorders are not contageous.

Nevertheless some uneducated people seem to think that mental disorders are the result of some evil the afflicted has done. They think we bring it upon ourselves. Or that we don't have a love of the truth. None of this is true. We are not evil and the diseases are real. We are not being punished by God for our deeds. It's just an affliction. Get it?

Amen! I have severe episodic manic depression and tried suicide twice, everyone was always like oh poor Heather get over it. Easy to say when you are "normal". It is proven fact depressed people have lower levels of this or higher levels of that. There are also underlying problems that do not come out until years later; like I was diagnosed with MS two years ago, major symptom of MS is depression. I wish there were more people out there like us, who know just because you take Lexapro or Lithium you are NOT a wack job!

Beethoven, Mozart, and Van Gough, most likely suffered from SOME sort of mood disorder. We certainly can't say what it was in particular.

It's dangerous to equate mental illness with intelligence and artistic talent. The link has been explored many times, and it's quite reasonable to say that one exists, but that doesn't lend itself to the not-so-geniuslike equation 'crazy=genius=crazy'.

the position have you ever been...almost honestly everyone takes an antidepressant and/or an anti-pressure drugs lately. there is not any stigma connected to that in any respect any extra, that is so basic. i do not imagine i recognize every person over the age of 21 that would not take some type of pill for pressure, melancholy, etc.

Mental illness is a disease. It's sad that some people would believe that it was caused by God or Evil.
