Where I am from there are strict rules on narcotics and controlled substances--in regards to inventory, so its highly unlikely that a pharmacist would be "using" without someone noticing.
Hazards... long long hours most definitely. There is always the risk of making an error and since the pharmacists here have full liability any error is their error. There is also the risk of robbery...people will rob a pharmacy not for its money but for its medications.
Many jobs have certain risks but people do them because they want to. The pharmacist I work with says she became a pharmact because she enjoys helping people and wants to help them become educated with what drug they are taking and why they are taking it.

I disagree with lea...most pharmacists work 12 13 hour days. Do the math on that and you'll find it's definitely over 40 hours a week. The pharmacy that I work at the pharmacist works 52 hours one week and then 36 the next. 40 hours would be possible I suppose if the pharmacy has more than 2 pharmacists. A pharmacist must be on the premises for any medication to be dispensed and therefore they are there all day long...no 15 minute breaks, no half hour lunch breaks.

Pharmacists don't work super long hours. Most full time staff pharmacists work about 40 hours a week.
Robberies are a risk.

We have large amounts of cash and drugs and are readily accessible. Draw your own conclusions!

Since you are so familiar with the drugs, it would be easy to become dependent without anyone even becoming suspicious.
