Will a nun that has been a nun for 50 years go to heaven? Are they housekeepers? Maids? Just what do they do, I never see any anywhere? Do they stay in the rectary all day long? Who buys their groceries? Who buys their feminine hygeiene stuff? Do they have bills to pay? Are nuns women that just happen to have chosen to be nun for a vocation? Do nuns ever get their hair done? Do they take bubble baths? When they walk are they really walking or are they floating?

simple..well, I actually did see one in walmart and I began to think how few Ive ever seen. And my heart went out to her because she was old and I got to wondering what kind of life she lived, and if she would go to heaven somesday . I prayed for her in my heart. But I was sad because I dont know if she knew she would go to heaven when she passed away.Thats all. I may withdraw my question because I am so saddened now over all the answers. It seems...I dont know...I have to go.

Im saddened because first of all I was kinda taking a jab at them and Im sorry about doing that, I did it in ignorance and I should have know better than to do that...and now I learn that they are really sincerely trying to do their best to get to heaven, but yet they dont know if what they've done will be good enough to get em in..and I know it wont be, becasuse its not of works lest any of us can boast. Thats what Im sad about..Im ashamed of my conduct first of all and then Im saddened that they are working so hard to make it into heaven based on the idea that good works can save them, which it wont.

Yes, nuns are women who have a vocation to love and serve God. Their occupation depends on the order to which a particular nun belongs. There are teaching orders, nursing and medical care orders, hospice workers, cloistered orders that are devoted primarily to prayer, etc.

Most nuns take vows of poverty, so the order is responsible for feeding them and meeting their needs. If they live in a community setting, there are certain nuns in charge of distributing necessary goods, and others who cook and clean. If a nun lives on her own in an apartment with others, she usually receives a stipend from her order to pay her bills.

In the days when wimples and long veils were used, it used to be that nuns cut their hair short to avoid a lot of unnecessary hair care. Now with the shorter veils, a lot of the nuns I know let their hair grow a little longer than before, but not much.

I couldn't tell you about the bubble baths, but I *do* know what one nun told her amazed students when she walked into class wearing the new short habit. The class kept staring at her legs, and she finally shook her head, "Well, what were you expecting? Wheels?"

Great you answered this Q. Have you thought of becoming one? Nuns do sin you know and not all go to heaven right away. There is a purgatory to suffer for the sins they might not have confessed here on earth.
Housekeeping: They do this themselves if they are not aged as most of them are these days, or they hire one which is rare.
They pray at church, sew, knit crafts, bake chocolates or cakes which they sell like carmel candy, also produce olive oil at monasteries or convents.
Recotry is where priests stay and do their duties.
Groceries-They can buy their own, or have help if they are elderly, or they grow their own food, vegetables, fruits in the back and bake their own breads if in different states all depends.
I am sure there are bills but some need dowries when they go into the convent.
They are CALLED BY GOD.
Their hair is cut short after they take the vows--not certain what they require today though.
By floating you probably mean ecstasy when they are in prayer with God or joined in holy prayer.

May I ask what got your curiosity going?
ORDERS:

Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.
Sisters of Carmel
Sisters of Adoration
Sisters of Charity
Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary (nuns who taught me)

Technically nuns are women who are cloistered (that is they live in a convent with as little contact with the outside world as possible) They devote their lives to prayer and doing things like sewing liturgical vestments, baking bread for communion, gardening, etc. Sisters are often referred to as nuns, though they are not technically. Sisters teach school, work in hospitals, do social work and other things in the world. Both groups take vows of virginity and obedience.

There are nuns and sisters in religions outside Catholicism. There are Anglican, Lutheran and buddhist nuns.

Nuns are women who choose to live their lives for God. They don't get married. They pray and help the communities where they live. Some nuns take vows of silence and they never go outside the convent. I think all those other things are taken care of for them.

What?
Nuns live together in service to others. They are just like other women only they have taken a vow of poverty, celibacy and a life dedicated to God.

Some convents have businesses on them, where the nuns make items for sale to help support themselves and give to the poor.

They do all of these things and you see them doing them. You may know nuns from the movies in what is referred to as habits, (their uniforms.) But the vast majority today, dress like everyone else and is not distinguishable from any one else.

When I went to catholic school, them physically and emotionally abused children and shamed children whose parents did not have a lot of money and could not make "donations" for various things on demand.
