When I got my cat Gyzmo, he wouldn't eat or drink or anything. Just moped around. My uncle called to tell me his littermate that was the same way. We went to get Gydget and we brought Gyzmo with us. Ever since then they've been happy and healthy. They have to do EVERYTHING together. Was there another kitten in the litter the kitten you have really liked? If there was and you don't mind having 2 cats you could always get that cat too.

She's been separated from her mom and siblings - a major change for her. For us it would be like the equivalent of being moved to a new planet we'd never known existed. It can take a while for them to adjust. Its often better to adopt two kittens from the same litter as it makes the transition easier and gives them a play mate. Just keep her in a small space in order for her to get used to her surroundings... with food, water and liter box nearby. And give lots of love and reassurance. And while we don't know how old she is, a kitten needs to have mom and siblings until at least six weeks.... preferably eight. My guess is she is younger than that.

Constant meowing may mean she is nervous.Give her some time to get used to you and her other surroundings. She may not like the food you give her.Buy a different brand and see if there is a difference in her appetite. And if she isn't going to the bathroom, this too is another sign of her emotions. She will start to do these things when she knows she can trust you.

Give her time, She is missing her mother and siblings. Cats always do this for a few days, soon you will become her mother. Just hold her and pet her and talk softly to her. Try to dip her nose gently into a little dish of milk, and when she tastes what it is she will probably try more. Dont do it for a long time, tho, so she chokes, just a little dip to get some on her mouth. After she trusts you more, things will be better. Let her sleep with you, so she feels a closeness.
Some cats are just bigger talkers than others. She is calling for her Mom. try meowing back to her.

It sounds as if the kitten is probably too small to eat on its own. I would get a tiny bottle as the other person said and feed it kitten formula. Also, if it is a very small kitten, it may need an external source of heat (again, like someone else mentioned). Good luck. Don't let the lil thing die! :(

I'd be worried too!..is it possible the kitten was too young to be taken from it's mother? and has not as yet developed to the stage of eating and drinking on it's own, instead of, from it's mother? Perhaps you could try using a bottle and teat to determine if this is the case? You can purchase very small items for this purpose.Ask your local Vet for advice re the type, strength etc of milk to give in this way.Hope this helps?

well, if your kitten was taken from the mother when it was to young then this could be the problem but what i did with my kitten when she was drinking but not enough was i went to her water dish and i dipped my finger in the water 5 or 6 times and then put it to her lips each time and then she went and drank some.
I would contact a vet as soon as possible or you may be sorry because your kitten either has pain or was to young to be taken away from the mother.
get help now.
take care and keep us updated on how your cat gets on.

I have had cats all my life.I have only had one cat though that kept meowing.I know that some cats take longer then others to get used of everything. If you don't think the cat is eating you could contact who ever you got it from and see what kind of food the kitty was getting before you had it.I would make sure you give her extra love to make her feel at home and buy her some cool little cat toys.HAVE FUN !

There is a reason. She is HUNGRY and you must do something so that she eats!
Please talk to a vet and get some appropriate food for her. Canned food is best.
It would help if you gave more information about her - where did she come from, what was she eating before you got her, how old is she?

Maybe she's missing her mother. Try wrapping her in something warm, and putting a clock that ticks next to her. It will sound like a heartbeat to her ears. Also, if the blanket isnt enough, try putting a hot water bottle up against her. She may just be lonely you can also order a soothing sounds machine from www.onestepahead.com. It has a heartbeat sound on it. I own one myself, because being schizophrenic, sometimes in order to sleep i have to distract my mind from the voices, and hearing a constant, soothing noise helps.
