Gomez no doubt an all time great. But when a man whines and makes excuses for getting his a** whipped against both Sanchez and Nelson it tarnishes his record a bit. As my learned friend Smitty has stated in the past; a fighter's record is not always indicative of their greatness. The best Puerto Rican fighter of all time is Wilfred Benitez. In his prime no other Puerto Rican fighter was ever better or as well rounded and polished.

Wilfredo Gomez in my opinion. Esteban DeJesus was the most underrated.
Did you see the Ring magazines list of the 20 greatest Puerto Rican fighters ever? It came out about 6-8 months ago and was very informative.

I'd have to agree with you on Gomez. A record of 44-3-1 with 42 of his wins coming by knockout? Pretty hard to beat.

You know I have to give it to the boxer/puncher style of fighters because thats what I am. Guys like Carlos Oritz who was an excelent combination fighter who dominated the 1950's & 1960's, and was two time champion. I also am a fan of Miguel Cotto, the best body puncher in boxing today. His style of going to the body is often neglected in this sport today.
