Reflection, and realization that your anger is irrational. If you discover your anger IS rational then there is no reason to change it, just find a nondestructive way to express it. Pills are pointless.

It depends on what the doctor thinks is the underlying psychiatric cause of the anger--is it depression, manic symptoms, psychosis, or just overly aggressive behavior? Also, medications sometimes have different effects on different people, so it's not really possible to have one drug that is going to work for everybody.
I used to work for a state hospital and they used to use Tegretol for patients who were particularly aggressive. It's probably a pretty strong drug so it would be better to try gentler drugs like Prozac or Paxil first.
My brother was always a pretty angry guy, and Lithium worked for him, he's not as prone to temper outburst since he got put on Lithium.

seroquel works well with anger and uncontrolled outburst, although no medication should ever be started with a complete medical work-up including labs if by chance your labs are off it could be something as a mild medication instead of a antipsychotic med.
