Yes.

What you have to look out for is that you probably told your agent there aren't any underage drivers (pay attention now) IN THE HOUSEHOLD.

If your friend lives with you and is underage, you "misrepresented". (That's a biggie for insurance companies)

Another issue would be if your friend is a blood relative and (again) "in the household". If he lives with you, he's got to be shown on the policy as an additional driver.

But if the guy doesn't live with you and isn't related by blood or marriage, it's nothing more than a case of "permissive use" and if he's in an accident your coverage applies.

Non-permissive use is an entirely different issue. That's if someone takes your car without your permission. Your coverage may not apply in that kind of situation.

If it's a one time or every once in a while occurance there is no need for you to add your friend on to your insurance policy.

There WILL be coverage AS LONG AS you have given your friend permission to drive the vehicle and you did not sign a form EXCLUDING your friend specifically from driving the vehicle.

You pay for insurance on the vehicle, so insurance follows the vehicle. If your friend lives with you or is driving the vehicle as much as you do, it might be wise to add them.

However what other people were saying about him being underage or if he doesn't have his own insurance is incorrect. Even if your friend is 16, and you gave him permission and an accident occured, your insurance will cover it. If he doesn't have insurance because he doesn't own a vehicle, same thing, your insurance will cover it.

Most insurance policies cover occasional drivers, however they have to be of a certain age - check with your insurance company.

Yes, but if they crash the car will not be covered, and your insurance won't pay anything.
