It's best to refrigerate fresh asparagus standing upright in a bowl with a bit of water in it.... that is, if you can get it to fit!

Depends on when you will use it. It is not necessary if you will use it within 24 hours of purchase. Either way, the best way to store it is standing upright in a tall cup of water to keep the roots moist. Last piece of advice.... Don't Cut It! If you simply grasp the stalks at each end and bend them, they will break where the "woody" part of the stem ends and the "edible" part of the tip starts. Very Easy... and delicious!

As soon as I get it home from the market, I cut off the bottom half inch of the stalks and stand them upright in a heavy mug with about one inch of water. I change the water whenever I grab a few stalks or at least every other day. They stay remarkably fresh for at least a week this way. Handy since I live alone...

Yes - in your vegetable crisper section. But not for long - asparagus loses it's freshness quickly, I've found.

Wash it wrap it in damp paper towels, put it in a ziploc bag and put it in the crisper of your refrigerator
