I - ice application (it will cause the vessels to constrict)*
C- Compress

S - Splint (if you have broken bones)

* do not apply ice directly into your skin

A bruise is caused by bleeding occur at the spot of injury. If you bruise a lot, you want to get checked for vitamin K deficiency. If it's just a bruise- no big deal, just let it run it's course. If the brusing is severe and on lower legs and feet, see an MD immediately.

Well you know what causes them, so to get rid of them, do not get a knock, bump, hit. However one thing I find useful 'arnica' cream! Its a homeopathy cream but always have a tube in the home, because if anyone falls over, falls out of bed, falls down the stairs, rub it in and it really stops the bruise from going black.

Bruises are contusions caused by bleeding under the skin, there are various preparations you can buy that claim to heal bruises faster, but I'm afraid they're quack remedies and it just takes time.

Bruises are caused by blood leaking out of your capilaries in a damaged area. It turns green as the leaked red blood cells are "cleaned up" by macrophage, thus releasing their green pigmented heme group. Your lymphatic system will clear it up for you, there's really nothing you can do besides that. Trust your body. It knows what it's doing!

bruises are bleeding below the skin. Sometimes it helps if you hold an icecube over them, and then take a toothbrush and rub them in a circular motion.

when you hit yourself really hard on something, the blood vessels beneath the skin rupture without the skin itself breaking. so, you're bleeding beneath your skin. it turns black-blue because the blood stays there and lacks oxygen, thus the color. oxygenated blood is red.

you can treat it by putting ice on it to numb it. it'll go away after a few days or weeks, depending how bad it is.
