How do YOU know that Gallic Wars, the Greek-Persian Wars, and the Great Peloponnesian Wars occurred? Were you there? Don't quote a history book, just tell me how you know that your history book is TRUE, and not just the words of man.

Because unlike what it says in Daniel, it is happening and things to come will happen. Many things that have happened were spoken by the Prophets and Writings.
With the question that you ask, it is like asking, "How do you know this world was created by the 'BIG BANG'? There is no proof, but there is proof the words written in the Bible are the true words of God. And the reason why I say that is, earth is still here, the moon and stars are in their place, the sun is set in its place, the creation of man and woman still exist, you're here right? Even the creation of all man kind still exist.
Plus, Israel is still a nation and God will always be there to protect her and against her enemies. God's words don't change and never have changed, it is man that changes His words and Laws.
I may not have been there, but I know and believe that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the same God from back then and is the same God now, only He will know who is for Him or against Him.

How do you know who tells me to write? The real question is whether you believe the report or not. If there is enough time studying the Bible, you would at least respect that people would believe it. Not that you would believe it yourself, that's the Spirit of God doing that. God makes it possible for those who he wants to understand it. So yes, that means he doesn't want everyone. He only wants certain people and he's always been that way.
So if you don't understand, that might be a plan of God's, he doesn't want you. But if you find yourself wanting to come to God, then you are being led to him. At that point, you have to be honest with yourself to acknowledge that he's after you.
I believe those men wrote what they wrote because they were inspired to. They weren't perfect people, they were just given information that we wouldn't have unless God gave it to them first.
And then there are all of those other things outside the Bible that come into play. It prophecies Israel becoming a nation again, oh look! It happened. It prophecied the future of a rock named Jacob's Pillar. And look under the chair at Westminister Abbey, kings and queens are still annoited over it. It talks about places that were lost through history, and look, there is Ninevah, there are the buildings talked about that Pontius Pilate buildt, all were contested for a time by scoffers who thought that it was proof that those places weren't found yet, until they found them.
So there will be ignorance as to why people read the Bible because they don't have the Spirit of God in them for one, and because they are ignorant of the history, even to these modern times that show that the Bible made fools out of many scoffers, even to this day.

No.
But I have with me now the same spirit that told these men what to write and it verifies not only the word but what people say about it..
In addition I have been told a few things myself. It was made so clear that I could repeat it 20 and 30 and 40 years later; as if it were said only minutes ago. Until the first time, I always wondered myself how these men retained what was spoken. Writing in the spirit and automatic writing are also mentioned in the Bible and account for many scriptures.
There are other things, but that should be enough.

I am a Christian. I don't believe the Bible is the Word of God spoken of in scripture. I think it is a big mistake to view the bible as the Word of God. The Bible is good advice, da*n good advice. The Word is something else, something better.

See, that's what I love about you people. You want an explanation about the source from any place other than the source. Forget that historians and archaeologists have confirmed the authenticity of the books in the bible by various and tedious methods (historical method for one). For a book of such antiquity to contain the wisdom and prophecy that we now see happening to be false would require an ongoing conspiracy of such secrecy itself, that to speculate on that alone would lead to the conjecture of some kind of supreme intelligence obviously not of earth. It speaks of a "beast" (world government) rising up out of the sea (Peoples of many tongues) that would attempt to destroy the people of God and the church. Let's see- hmmm. Europe has cohered with a single currency, a single Court, rapidly moving to a single religion, .... are you "seeing" anything of a pattern here? These things are FACTS that no-one can refute. For the men to whom God revealed this information to back then to be frauds, none of what we see currently happening would indeed be happening. But it IS happening. Who, in their right mind, would deny ANY of this? Who? But hey, - God's nothing more than a "sky-daddy". Rock on, dudes.

when you read the Bible, there is something inside that says, "this is the Truth"
the Bible tells of God's covenant with man and His perfect love in bringing about redemption ultimately through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
seems to me that it would be extremely hard to have the consistency and goodness of the Word for several generations of authors...
outside of that, i have faith...

The Bible is the word of men inspired by God.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were all written shortly after the resurection and no-one of that day questioned them. They only question weather Jesus was actually God.

I don't see why anyone takes the Hebrew bible anymore seriously than any of the other narratives ever written. Literally, every people in every period of history claimed they were chosen recipients of spoken word from god.

It's about faith. And how do you know they didn't? It's not unbelievable. How would a regualr man come up with stories like that anyway? And no I wasn't there, it was over 1000 years ago when it was written.
