I work at a tanning salon, and yes, it would be beneficial if you used lotion. I don't like the lotions with bronzers in them because I find them to make you streaky. However, the lotion increases your blood flow, and brings the melanin to the top of the skin, allowing it to absorb more of the UV rays. I've tanned before without lotion, and it does still work, just not as fast and as dark as it could be. Try buying your lotion on your own however, most tanning salons sell for way above the price they bought it for.

Yes its necessary. It really does keep your skin moisturized. If you just go in bare, your skin will eventually dry. Also, if you get the right lotion, it will really help you get a better tan- try one with "tingle" in it (but dont worry when you come out you will be MUCH darker where you put the lotion than where you didnt, but it fades after an hour or 2, also, dont use tingle unless you're already tan).
Aside from that, make sure you're applying a lot of lotion after you get out of the shower to keep your skin moisturized.

Yes, it's fine to tan without tanning lotion in a bed, I have done it many times.

Don't be a cheapskate, use the lotion. That's all it comes down to, right? You don't want to spend money on a lotion. Spend the money. Get it. It's better for your skin to use it. And spend a little more and buy yourself a really good moisturizer lotion also. Use the moisturizer once or twice a day but definently right after you get out of the shower.

I've tanned for years without any lotion. Just use moisterizer before and after. If you do decide to buy some lotion, don't buy the "tingle" kind. A lot of people like it but to me it felt like someone scrubbed my skin with sandpaper!

I know lots of people who have had skin cancer from not using a lotion in the tanning bed. It's ok to do it once in a while.. yeah you will get a faster tan... but it's not safe. I suggest saving your skin from the torture and spare the cash for the tan..
good luck

of course u can tan without, but it`s obviously much better to use...tanning will dry your skin out, plus tanning lotion helps moisturize your skin & hydrated skin tans much better & holds color longer...plus, if u don`t use lotion, it will take longer for u to see any results from your sessions!!! usually the salon sells sample packets that contain 1 or 2 sessions worth of lotion...maybe that`s an option until u buy a larger bottle...

Yes its fine to tan without the lotion. Its good to use though because it keeps your skin hydrated so you don't burn and peel as easily. It helps you get a deeper darker tan.

no it is TOTALLY not necessary!!! you use the lotion to make the tan more intense.. i think it helps boost like 20% or something depending on which type you use.. but it is def. not necessary i've gone a hundred times w/o getting the lotions
