Yes. Look under the legs (the ''armpit'' area), and under the fur at the base of the tail & behind the ears. You'll be able to see the fleas, if your dog has them.

Fleas are a parasite that you can see with the eye, they are tiny black insects .If you cant see any fleas or the flea dirt - which is black and looks like grains of dirt on the skin it may be possible that your yorkie doesnt have fleas. The usual sites for infestation is around the head and at the base of the tail in most breeds. There may be other causes for your yorkie to continually scratch and be uncomfortable - it may have allergies to things like the grass or a flea bite even though it doesnt have any on it now .If you are concerned in any way take it to the local vet for a check up .The only way to prevent fleas is to give your pet an inscetidal bath and then put it on prevention which is available from pet stores or the local vet clinic.

You can check yourself by combing the dog with a proper flea comb - run the comb through his fur a few times, particularly round the neck and over the belly. Then look at the hair that is on the comb - do you see any black dots/flakes? These are FLEA DIRTS (poos) and are the tell-tale sign that fleas are present. If there are a lot of fleas, you will see these dirts if you just part the dog's fur in a few places and look at the skin.
If you comb the dog over some wet, white paper the flea dirts will fall onto the paper and turn into a red stain (blood).
You should flea treat your dog regularly anyway - even if he never goes outside! Use a treatment from a vets - pet shop stuff is often quite useless.

Look on the tummy area, esp. around the base of the legs. If you see little creepy crawlies, those are fleas.

Look through his fur and you'll see them if he has them. They are tiny black/brown critters and they crawl fast. You'll also see little specks that look like dirt. Those are the flea eggs and feces.
