Fairly poor. Most states in the U.S. have elevator laws that fall under the ASME codes. That is the American Society for Mechanical Engineers, 17.1 in the code book requires 24 hour 2-way communications devices to be installed in the elevator. As for getting out, the "Rescue" if done by the book will go something like this. If the reset/overide controls fail to bring you to the ground floor, they will come down and unlock the emergency escape hatch on top of the car and take you to the nearest floor.

Well there was a guy delivering Chinese food in the Bronx about a year ago who was trapped in the elevator for 2 days and was found dehydrated and was drinking his own urine.

Well, I never went to step in an elevator and saw a skeleton, so I'd say your odds of getting out are fine.

I'm not really sure what the chances are but i think if you don't get rescued the best thing to do is get to know the people you are with whale you still can!

There was a case in NYC where a guy was working alone in an office building late on a Friday... got stuck... and didn't get discovered until Monday... but he was ok, relatively speaking... it musty have smelled awful by the time they found him... and he sued the building anyway...

You will be rescued. There are so many safety systems in place now it's rare to be ''stuck'' more than a few seconds.
