I know his last name sounds like a kewl Transformer ("Mom, will you buy me Ratzinger?!") or a great comic book villain ("Spider-Man faces his most dangerous foe, the Ratzinger!").
Seriously, though, from the first I have kept an open mind about the new pontiff. I think he's an intelligent man and knows the ways of the world. He has a lot of potential, if he only has the courage and the will.

Wasn't he elected as a stop gap measure to stay the course for the next few years? He's pretty old so I can't imagine not having a new pope in the next 10 years.
And no, he wasn't really voluntarily a member of Hitler Youth. He was a member but I really wouldn't call iti voluntary. Not that it matters though, as that was a very long time ago.
What IS interesting about Ratzinger's papacy is that according to St Malachy's list of all the popes who were and ever were to be, the next pope is to be Peter the Roman who is the last pope before the "terrible judge."
This is what St Malachy said about the last pope:
"In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End."
So that's pretty much it. We're going to see the end times in our lifetimes. Now, is it going to be the end of the world, or the end of Christianity?

I am a liberal Christian, non-RC, but I have great respect for Ratzinger. God's Rottweiler. I like that about him. I am reading one of his books. He is a very, very intelligent man. He spoke the truth about you-know-what. He is a good man, God bless him. I think it is important for the leader of the RC church to be conservative. I see them as the hub of a wheel. I am on the rim with the rest of the liberals. Imagine what hell it would be if the center were liberal. Where would it go from there? Not a good image. Better the center is conservative, keepers of the faith. Slow change is best.

The last pope to bring positive changes was John XXIII.
The latest pope is one of a line of successors that want to go back to the bad old days before the second Vatican Council. No good will come of that for the Church as a whole.

His Holyness is very new to the position that he was chosen for. Only time will tell how history treats him. If you remember, JPII wasn't liked by the general population much when he started, everyone thought that he was to young to be an effective leader.
I trust in what he is saying, and have faith that the Holy Spirit will guide him the way that God wants him to go.

I believe he can bring many positive changes. He is already standing up for the church's teachings and not backing down.

He's WAY up in his 80s... I don't see him making any 21st century changes. He seems too concerned about appearances to me. I'm not sure how much faith I have in him.
