When it has helped so many people recover from a life of sin and has even cured homosexuality. I use to drink a handle of Jack Daniels everyday but Jesus has saved my life and I have been sober for over 11 years.

Praise Him!

I will agree that he shouldn't have used the word "cure" to describe the change in homosexuals' lives. They may have chosen to change their lives, but they didn't just BAM not have the problem anymore. I will also say that religious wars are absurd. Both sides are intent on sending the other to judgment when they should be doing all they can to save them if they believe what they say they do. That's why Christians, unlike Buddhists, try to save others. They believe this life is the only chance a person gets, while a Buddhist believes they will be reincarnated until they eventually reach enlightenment and progress to their heaven. Also, Christians who speak out against science are the ones who don't know how to defend themselves when faced with debate. A Christian who has been around the block a few times doesn't disregard science. He or she does not agree with Macro Evolution and the Big Bang Theory. Period. They believe that God created everything, and their are Christian ideas out there to support dinosaurs such as the fact that when translated from greek, the creation did not take place in seven days, but seven eras of time. Whatever, the bottom line is they don't ignore science.

Another thing atheists should know: Christians (myself included) need remember that the Bible says on several accounts that we will be judged by the same harshness that we judged others here on earth with. Forgive others, don't condemn them!

Christians who go about trying to convince you to look at our point of view correctly should not be judging you. If it seems that way, I apologize, and maybe many have judged you and completely gone about this in the wrong way (they are hypocrites). One who tries to tell you about God believes whole heartedly that he or she is right, and is begging for you to give it a chance because they want you to experience the love of God. I'm sure many of you will come up with a bunch of examples where you don't see God's love in the world. As far as I'm concerned, he is God, and even when something happens that I don't agree with, he is still above everything that happens here. We are here but for a short time. His view is greater and more objective than any belonging to us. His will is far above mine. I praise God through the good and bad because I know he has a plan that I can't always understand.

Don't let hypocritical Christians of past and present (religious wars, corrupted churches, ministers who don't practice what they preach) create a bad opinion of all Christians. There are some who follow God the right way - loving EVERYONE no matter what their beliefs, but at the same time working to help EVERYONE understand and receive God's love in a non forced, non judgmental manner.

First thing: You can't 'cure' homosexuality. It's not an illness. I should have thought that was obvious when the two leaders of the Ex-Gay ministry Exodus, fell in love and ran away together.

I have no doubt that Christianity has some good aspects, but when you look at all the people who have been murdered in wars over religion, or murdered because they didn't convert, or burned because they were considered 'witches', it kind of negates the positive.

You answered your own question with the "cured homosexuality" bit. That just shows the bigotry and hate that many christians feel towards people who do not share their faith.

People do not have to become christian to give up addiction such as alcoholism. Some people go that route and that is good for them, however, others do not and they end up good as well. I know a few wiccans who were heavy alcoholics and have been able to stop drinking.

Also, let it be known, there has never been any solid evidence to support "pray away the gay".

Not all athiest claim any religion is bad. some feel we are brainwashed, ignorant and such but they show their intelligence long before they finish their sentence. most of the athiest I personally meet and get a chance to talk to are very intelligent and use their cognitive ability to the utmost. If you are a Christian you at one time were not something changed you. I was a non believer until Christ called me late in my 20's. but he called me. I did not find some great evidence on a mountain in Turkey nor did I read something that was a great revelation. I was called. that is why Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you
have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet
have believed.”

First of all, congratulations on 11 years of sobriety. Well done.

Secondly, I only find objectionable those Christians who selfishly believe they have a right (or duty) to impose their beliefs on others through legislation or coercion. That's it. Don't try to think for me, tell me how I must live or rear my children, pass off your beliefs as science in public schools, or interfere with my freedoms and we're good.

I believe people should stand up for what they believe in and have a right to do so, but I have a personal stake in how religion can interfere with medical decisions and medical research. I have a grandchild with Muscular Dystrophy. There's a very strong chance that her disease could be treated by transplanting cells generated from human embryonic stem cells, something many Christians (though not *only* Christians) are urging their representatives to oppose because of their religious beliefs. For my granddaughter, it's a matter of quality of life, and quite possibly a matter of life or death, so I take the matter quite personally.

No, Homosexuality has not been a genetic factor. People keep telling themselves that to make them think that what they have choose is OK. I have done a lot of genealogy research and am close to many Dr.s who do he same and it is not in the genes. Often times it is because of generational curse, or someone who has been raped or abused. Godly speaking, everyone in made in the image of God and he would not create someone to live a life of sin. God is not a God of confusion (which homosexuality creates) the devil is. God did not make them this way, they choose this.

Jesus didn't stop your drinking problem, you did. It's called will power.

maybe the idea of Jesus was a catalyst for you to stop drinking, but you stopped drinking because you wanted to, because you realised it was having a negative impact on your life.

Don't doubt the power of the human mind.

Just playing devils advocate here, but I think the reason many people feel that way is because throughout history, not only Christianity, but ALL religion in general INCLUDING Christianity was the basis for most all wars ever fought. Also, religion was created by governments as a means to " control " the masses.Have the common folk as a flock of sheep, so to speak.Because of this last reason, people like myself tend to be leary of religion, but not because of the positive effects it has had in your life, but for the more sinister aspects of its history.

You live on another planet and Christians in general are arrogant, judgmental, hipocritical.

Homosexuality cannot be cured because it's not an illness.

There's an old saying that if you take the alcohol out of alcoholism, you're still left with the 'ism.'

Maybe you could find help at AA meetings, to recover from your character defects, and cease to be a dry drunk for Jesus, why not?

And yes, Praise Him and Praise Her and Praise It!

Homosexuality isn't something that needs curing. The very fact that Christians think it is is enough to turn me off from Christianity.
