Hi

Is this the same engine which had a broken lobe?

This engine has either been constantly and seriously over revved, or it is just one of those things, and I will wager that you need a new engine. As I said before, it is a good idea to fit a new timing belt and tensioner kit to a second hand engine before fitting it.

Cheers

for this type of damage suspect a combination of severe abuse and neglect [oil starvation] when you get back from the salvage yard and before you spend any money on the "new" engine pull the cam cover if it is a sludge pit take it back. if it is a keeper in addition to timing belt and related parts a new set of crankshaft front and rear seals as well as camshaft seal[s] and probabley the water pump should be replaced [it will never be easier than when out of the car]
