Tony Campolo is a very popular evangelist and author and he said in a recent interview: Over the last few years I've become increasingly uncomfortable with my fellow evangelical Christians because they refuse to face the fact that in the overwhelming number of cases homosexuals do not change no matter hard they pray. I always emphasize that there are exceptions. But can people be prayed out of Alzheimer's disease? Of course, they can. Do you know anybody who has? I don't. The fact that God can do anything should not be questioned, but to say that you can pray yourself out of homosexuality creates a real problem. Many parents end up being alienated from their own children who are homosexual because they believe that if their kids would just get serious and pray about this they would be delivered. I could give you heart-breaking stories, of boys in particular, who cannot go home and see their parents because their parents say, "Until you repent and pray for God to change you cant come

By the way you should know that Mr. Campolo is straight and very conservative. In no way does his comment mean he does not view homosexual relations as a sin. Just in case you yourself was going to pass judgement on HIM too.

No, you cannot be prayed out of Alzheimer's because Alzheimer's is not a sin. But God can help you overcome homosexuality because it is a sin. Repent and turn from you sin and you can overcome it. An Evangelist who denies God can't help you with sin needs to go back and read the Book.

So God can cleanse, forgive and free anyone from any sin, except, apparently, homosexuality. Well, if He can't solve that, what else is too hard for Him? Homosexuals, apparently, are like animals in heat. They just can't help having sex with each other. They're absolutely compelled by some overpowering outside force. What about any other sinners? Child molesters or abusers, rapists, murderers, thieves, liars, drunks, gluttons. How come God can change their lives, but not homosexuals? The premise is preposterous. Either He is able, or He is not. There are no special cases. Sometimes, it's not a matter of praying, it's a matter of changing your behavior. If you are unwilling to let God do that, then it is impossible to be transformed.

I'm glad they are beginning to understand. Jesus said preach the GOOD NEWS. Not the bad. Jesus said LOVE one another as HE loved us. Not beat each other with the verbal-abuse stick.

Being compassionate with a person does not mean you agree with their lifestyle.

For those who said you can't pray someone out of Alzheimers because it's a disease and not a sin - I beg to differ. It is biblical to pray someone out of a disease. I have seen it in action.

I think it's wrong that people, whether Christian or not, would reject their children because they are gay. As I've always said on YA! No one especially Christians are to judge anyone. To believe the bible outright/the truth of scripture, which calls homosexuality an abomination is one thing but to pass a judgment that belongs to God is quite another. Judgment or the consequence of sin belongs to God and Him alone! While I may not agree with the gay lifestyle, I wouldn't shun or treat someone badly because that is his or her choice. Let me stop and parenthetically say that ALL sin is a choice not something that can't be helped (an excuse to continue in sin). However, when I hear about things of this nature I am reminded of Jesus and how he dealt with the lowest of the low (sinners) in the day He walked the earth. Jesus sat with them, had dinner with them, spoke kindly to them, treated them well and did not condemn them even though He also did not agree with their choice to willfully sin. A Christian’s life is supposed to progressively mirror the life of Jesus Christ. So it is my opinion that one who calls herself or himself a Christian yet would not regard with love those who they believe are willfully living contrary to God's word is just fooling themselves and all the self righteous (still sinning) Christians that support them. I am Christian and all I can say for Christians like the ones I've mentioned is that they either don't know any better (not studying the word of God) or have made a choice to be in tolerant and judgmental in spite of the fact that God's word say's to abide in love, which means they willfully choose to sin.

He compared being gay to a incurable disease. If he said you would condemn someone for having red hair, he might be sincere. He is still as ignorant of homosexuality as he ever was, just slightly more politically correct.

I agree with Tony. Let's start treating homosexuals like they are people. Sure, they're sinners--and so are you--and so am I. The sin of judgment is a serious sin--it can condemn people to hell--the judger and the judged. Let's work on creating a little heaven instead.

Alzheimers disease is not a sin, and homosexuality is a sin and not a disease.
There is HUGE difference. And this is not about not loving homosexuals, it is about supporting their lifestyle or accepting it, we who are christians do not accept something that goes against God- why would we? Just like idolatry or adultery- we would not support it. If someone says they hate gays, that is wrong of them- that is the wrong attitude, but there is a fine line between loving your enemy and being ok with how they live.
I would say these so called evangelists are being led astray very quickly--- it starts with one thing, and then it will lead to something else that they say is ok in the eyes of God, when it is not ok.....eventually their entire foundation has crumbled. Those who stand firm on the foundation of Christ, do not fall!

i'm a Christian to boot, and also a lesbian. You ask how do we clarify Leviticus 18:22. are you able to describe Leviticus 19:19? It tells us now to not mate 2 diverse kinds of animal (bye bye mules), now to not plant fields with 2 diverse kinds of seed (gained't the farmers of the international sense free to take heed to that one), and under no circumstances to positioned on outfits woven of two diverse kinds of fabrics (so throw out all of your cotton-polyester-blend t-shirts). What about Leviticus 19:27? that asserts your not allowed to decrease the hair on the perimeters of your head, and under no circumstances to trim your beard (oops, I tripped over my sideburns). And Leviticus 12:a million-5? That tells us that females who've merely given beginning are unclean, and performance to stay at homestead for sixty-six days (speedy! bypass positioned all the hot moms contained in the hospitals less than homestead-arrest for 2 months!). Leviticus 11:3-8? not allowed to warmth beef or rabbit. Leviticus 11:9-12? won't be able to devour shellfish or something else that lives contained in the water yet isn't a fish. Leviticus 11:27-28? not allowed to the contact the floor of a useless pig (bye bye Superbowl). definitely, Leviticus is so finished of commandments that no man or woman follows any extra, it would want to be insanity to target to follow all of them. Why human beings insist on sticking to Leviticus 18:22 even as they ignore about a majority of those different commandments, i do not comprehend. that is fairly ridiculous and makes no experience in besides. we ought to continuously remember that the biggest element about being a Christian is to love God and love one yet another, now to not evaluate and condemn one yet another for petty little guidelines that were written down through some previous guy suggested as Moses thousands of years in the past. i have considered that dissimilar human beings listed the following are claiming that you won't be able to be a Christian and gay mutually. it really is fairly unfaithful. Being a Christian skill believing in God and in Christ, and doing one's perfect to follow the ten Commandments and the teachings of Christ (Matthew 19:16-21).

What a person does behind closed doors with another consenting adult really isn't any of my business. That is between those people and God. I do not have to approve of it, we are not supposed to judge. No sin is greater than another in God's eyes.

More understanding of them, praying for/with them...OK. As long as they are not giving them the impression that everything is fine. It is not OK to be a homosexual. It is a sin. Christians should love sinners.
