Not many go into a foxhole as an atheist - atheists are smart enough to get assigned to less dangerous jobs. However, Christians turn from their trust in the lord time and time again when those bullets come whizzing by, dodging the bullets themselves instead of trusting God to save them.
There are probably thousands of conversions to atheism in foxholes.

Plenty enough that they've started an organization to make sure the old quip about their being none is challenged regularly for the lie it is.
There are lots of atheists in foxholes.

As many as there were during induction.
Why do people think one is prone to lose their convictions when being shot at? Do Christians suddenly become Muslim in a foxhole because of a fear of not getting to the right Heaven?

Just as many as outside the foxholes.
I was with my father when he had a heart attack. He was so panicked he forgot his birth date. He said oh my God a few times but he never prayed to him or asked him for forgiveness for anything. Does that make him less of an Atheist?

A distant relative of mine became one after he was one of the first on the beaches at Normandy. He said the horrors he saw in Germany months later cemented it for him. "There is no god," he said, point blank to me, "Though I held the hands of people who said I'd come from God to save them, I kept silent, rather than let them know this because who was I to take what hope was left."
I was an atheist at the time, and promised him I'd not tell other members of his immediate family because he was so sure it would kill them.
He was a @!#%!#$%ing hero and everytime Christians dis atheists, that's who I see.

Many, I am sure. Being shot at doesn't change the fact that there is no god to magically whisk you away from the situation.

Never counted.
Why is it that Christians believe everyone will rush to believe in their God if they think their lives are in danger?
Could it be they honestly cannot comprehend NOT believing?
