Absolutely. After 65 you should have to take an eye, multiple choice written and driving test on a yearly basis. In the hands of an unable driver, a car is a deadly weapon.

A couple observations.
I'm going to turn 60 within the next year, and although I have aged really well so far, I can tell that a lot of my parts are slowing down, including my eyes and my reaction time. I'm still a long way from being one of these slow drivers everyone complains about, but I can tell that it's going to make a difference one of these days.
If the law required me to be tested at 60, I wouldn't mind (except for the hassle of making time for it). Maybe every 5 years after 60, every 2 years after 70, and every year after 75 or 80. Of course the problem is that we'd have to hire more people to be examiners at the motor vehicle department, and either the taxpayers or the people taking the test would have to pay their salaries.
But while I agree that there's a need to do something about older drivers who are losing their physical skills, I think there's a much greater problem with people who don't know what they're doing out there on the road. They are unaware of the rules, oblivious to what's going on around them, don't understand common courtesy, and haven't been trained to control their vehicles. (And that's not to mention the ones on their cell phones.)
If I were in charge of training and licensing drivers, the required training course would be more like military flight training than the guaranteed-to-pass, 6-night high school course it is today.
I'm currently training my second son to drive, and he is getting the full treatment. This past weekend he went to "skid school" (emergency braking, slalom, emergency lane changes, and the skid pad). If every student did that and took it seriously, there would be a lot fewer fender benders, as well as fewer fatalities. Thorough training is no guarantee that he won't ever have an accident or become a fatality, but I trust his over any of his friends' driving ... and in fact, he is not allowed to ride with any of his friends who have licenses, since I don't know what training they've had (but I suspect it was not very thorough).

Gawd there are some ignorant answers out there. If this is to be considered,70 is not a bad time for a vision and reflex check. 75 for a basic driving test, and maybe every 2 or 3 years after that. 60 is not old. Some of the best professional drivers on the road are in the 60 to 70 age bracket, and some of the worst are in the under 30 bracket, because they think they know it all. And remember, whatever age you pick, you are going to be that age sometime, and the harder you think you should make it now, the harder it will be for you.

It should be required by law especially since about 20 people were run over in los angeles by a 90 year old man a few years ago. A good age to start would be 60 years of age. If they are still alive after 90 every 6 months.

Yes, at age 16, or whenever first licensed. Every 5 years. Full rack: Written, Signs, Eyes, and On-the-Road eval. Young drivers are the worst on the road. Bad habits tend to pile on at any age and everyone should be re-evaluated periodically.
Airline pilots have a full physical every 6 months and frequent check-rides. Every 5 years is reasonable for vehicle operators.

I think at age 65, they should have to do it every 2 years. At age 70, every year. Not so much the written, but a 15 minute driving test.

Age 60. It should be yearly. It sure would get the people who are dangerous because of age off the road.
Now, in my particular case, being over 60 has only IMPROVED my driving skill. I've only crashed twice this year. (kidding) I haven't had a ticket OR accident in over 20 years.

all drivers should be required to retake the driving test . personally i think all drivers should have to pass a defensive driving course as a requirement to get your license. if you can't pass the course, you don't drive. this will get most of the bad drivers off the road

If it have been conceivable, i think of everybody ought to retake a utilising attempt each few years. in step with my commentary of drivers many times, maximum do no longer force besides as they think of and tend to interrupt the guidelines. additionally there are fewer Senior electorate utilising recklessly and in contact with automobile injuries as an entire than something of the utilising inhabitants. Distracted drivers and aggressive drivers each create 37% of injuries in 2005. see hyperlink
