P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean

Description of DTC:
A HEGO sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.

Possible Causes:
Electrical:
Short to VPWR in harness or HO2S
Water in harness connector
Open/Shorted HO2S circuit
Corrosion or poor mating terminals and wiring
Damaged HO2S
Damaged PCM
Fuel System:
Excessive fuel pressure
Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors
Leaking fuel pressure regulator
Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel
Vapor recovery system
Induction System:
Air leaks after the MAF
Vacuum Leaks
PCV system
Improperly seated engine oil dipstick
EGR System:
Leaking gasket
Stuck EGR valve
Leaking diaphragm or EVR
Base Engine:
Oil overfill
Cam timing
Cylinder compression
Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2S(s)

HO2S21 is the DRIVER SIDE bank UPSTREAM O2 (or BEFORE catalyst) sensor. This sensor is located on the inlet to the driver side catalytic converter, just below the exhaust manifold. Hope this helps.

The Sensor 2 is the heated oxygen sensor that is used for the catalyst monitoring. It is located under the truck on the catalytic converter or just behind it.

I'm not familiar with the F-150 but you'll need to go under the truck to see if it has one or two catalytic converters (single or separate dual exhaust). If the exhaust pipes come off the headers and merge into a single exhaust system that goes into the catalytic converter then the "1" refers to the only oxygen sensor for the only cat. If you have two separate exhaust systems with two separate catalytic converters, Bank 1 would refer to the side of the engine that has the #1 cylinder/spark plug. I think all domestic V-8's have number 1 cylinder as the left (driver's side) front. The Sensor 2 would then be the catalyst on the driver's side of the vehicle if you have two catalytic converters

hope that answers your question

Rakel is right on what the code means and all... bank 2 is drivers side, sensor 1 is the sensor below the exhaust manifold (best to disconnect when cold as the connector is hidden on other side of transmission cable and I wind of moving it out of the way to access the connector)

Usually when you see a code like this, I find either you have a air leak or a sensor that is starting to get lazy...

OK now here this, I have a 2001 F150 And had the same code, Replaced EPEDE sensor , EGR valve, and couple of things, Gas filter to, Now her is the catch, It said # 3 cylinder was bad, I knew the plugs were good just changed, The COIL is bad , Change the coil and re set computer , and away you go. Did all the work my self it helps, good luck

Bank One is always the side with the #1 cylinder.

#1 is the front passenger's side cylinder.

I think you are reading the code backwards though...I believe that is saying bank2, sensor1....so you would need to replace the driver's side front.

P1151 indicates a lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. - the sensor is lazy or bad.

Possibility of 2 corrections. You said you replaced the cap. Did you replace it with an aftermarket cap or a locking type? If so put a Ford cap on it. Also clean the metal surface that the cap seals to with an alcohol wipe. If this does not fix the problem then take it to your local Ford dealer and have them scan the truck for an emission related malfunction. The light only generalized the problem.

On Ford V series, bank 1 means the number 1 cylinder side and is always on the right from the drivers seat. So it's on the passenger side 2nd one back,

I just replaced the same one on mine
