Or at least sometimes.

Sorry, sudden melancholic burst.

Um for those who don't know my convictions (or lack thereof), I see that my question has been stated a little unclearly - I have meant the Original Fall part as a metaphor. *like* a tiny epiphany etc., not *an epiphany* in itself.
Tom, thanks for the sincerity, and sory for your loss, but I would even find it a little sadistic from god to tell you that sentence *while* you *were* praying - therefore hypothetically turning back to him...

Actually...
In a small way, this is just it. I went through a very painful divorce fifteen years ago. I deserved it for being a brutish mealy mouthed abusive pig. I was a new Christian at the time and was unaware of the underlying issues I had not yet faced, like my terrible insecurity and temper from having grown up in an abusive home. All of this came boiling to a head very early in my marriage, and my wife couldn't take it (not that she should have) since she came from a quiet loving Christian home.

It was absolutely devastating to me. I begged forgiveness and sought counseling alone, but she would have nothing to do with me. I repented in tears and confessed my sin to anyone who would listen, including God. I fasted and went without sleep and lost better than 20 pounds fasting, but other than divorce court, I never saw her again. Just like that, in 3 months from the time we were married, she filed for divorce. Within 6 months, it was over and I never saw her again. I was absolutely destroyed, and even had wide awake nightmares about it. I begged God to forgive me and to help us to reconcile, but to no avail.

One day when I was alone and praying about six months later, I was asking God why He wouldn't turn her heart. After all, we were both Christians and I had whole heartedly repented. The only answer I ever got about this, and it was spoken softly in my heart, almost audibly, was

"Now you know a bit about how I feel."

At one point or another in time, every person who has ever lived has given God walking papers and has ignored His pleas for reconciliation. The difference is, He has done nothing wrong.

Someday, if you are interested, email me and I can tell you the rest of the story of how He brought me back out of the pit and healed my heart.

Tom

Yes they are. Something that cannot be fixed...something that is forever changed and has no chance of being repaired. Relax, no need to apologise. You could be onto something there - look it into it further.
